Entry door: buy from C4 or off-the-shelf?

Hi new C4 customer here in the US. I am still building it out and my C4 integrator sent me the link of compatible locks. I was thinking of using Schlage before but now it seems the Yale Assure looks the best bet. But I have read the forum a bit and am still a bit confused.

1. I should buy the Zigbee version right?

2. Some people mention that I should buy from C4 as its Zigbee is different from the standard. Is it really true? My integrator seems to not think so. Just want to be sure.

Thank you, I think I'll go with Yale too.

Just a dumb question since I am new: what is a driver? is it software? Also, if you buy lock from Amazon do you need a dongle to integrate with C4? So which way is better, buying it directly from C4 or from Amazon + dongle?

Yes, a Control4 driver is software that is installed into the system to let the system know how to talk to a device, and what kind of a thing the device is, and what capabilities that particular thing has.

It doesn't make much sense to buy it from Amazon and try and source the Control4-specific dongle.  You're not going to save a lot doing it that way, and it's much more difficult, with some manufacturers, you can't even buy the Control4-specific dongle without buying the lock.

Avoid the hassle, and just buy a Control4 compatible Zigbee lock from a Control4 dealer.
