If anyone has read the latest installation instructions for the V3 Amp rack ears there is the mention of an HC-500 and an Amp controller. I wonder if the HC-500 is a replacement for the Media Controller and the "Amp Controller" some sort of controller with an amp built in 4 channel amp (sort of a Sonos killer). C4 doesn't preannounce products so it could just be a misprint that the NEW instructions for the V3 Amp rack ears mention products that have not been officially released. Just speculation on my part. :D

I love my Control 4, but the Sonos software interface for controlling music, zones, and volume is amazing. Control4 should use it as a bench mark.

Managing the music queue and zone control with the C4 touch screen is cumbersome.

That 7" touch screen photo is cool! I want one.

I do find it interesting that they continue to include a mic/speaker in their new designs when everyone you ask says they have no intention of making it functional. You would think if the intercom functionality was truly off the list they would stop adding it onto their new products to save $$.

I googled the HC-500 a few nights ago and came upon this file. The PDF was gone, but google has it cached. Basically it seems like the HC-500 is a beefed up Media Controller, and they are also coming out with a ASC-500 which is a HC-500 with a four channel amp. Check out the link.. http://209.85.207.104/search?q=cache:AHspEPsfs3sJ:dtaylor.net/backs/BAKUP/Phoenix%2520Docs/Vendor%2520info%2520pricing%2520etc/Control%25204/Dealer%2520Council%25202007.ppt+Control4+HC-500&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us It's a little confusing becuase it lost all it's formatting, but just "control-f" HC-500

I love this thread :) I can't say much but I can say the new stuff is going to be great...

The 7" will not be out unfortunately for 3 to 6 months, it is going to be a killer piece.

The HC-500 as well is going to be a great piece, I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say but you guys are on the right track research wise :P

Now now Dan... :) Shhhhh....

For the rest of ya - I think VERY soon now people are going to start hearing more and more about an HC-500... so keep your eyes pinned to your screens! :) Worst case - CES - best case... sooner!

Totally agree. It's clumsy at best right now. I'd like to see some upgrades in the programming flexibility too; i.e., i should be able to RENAME my custom variables and custom screens without having to delete and create new ones.

The scheduling and variables should also be sortable, by time, name, whatever. Right now, they simply appear in the order they were created.

HC-500 data? Seems like the press releases should be coming out for CES, since it is imminent....

Meanwhile, to those in the know, is a backlit remote ever going to be released? If not, who is using backlit third party remotes to deal with the difficulties of using C4 remotes in the dark, and is one better than another with C4 systems?

the pronto 7500 works good. you can get it looking very control4-ish too... takes some time getting all the IR configured on the HTC or MC though...

i like the mx850 though... lights up and still fits in one hand. also you can use both RF and not have to point at an IR repeater bug. Just put the emitter on the HTC/MC

silly how lots of people justify the control4 when they hear they can use their 800 dollar remote with it.

HC-500 Enhances Large Home Theater Experience With Additional

Storage and Faster Processing

LAS VEGAS--(Business Wire)--Control4, the leader in affordable IP-based home control and

#21407). The Control4 HC-500 is a high performance media server,

optimized for whole home automation systems with large home theaters

requiring extensive I/O connections for device control.

In addition to managing the home theater, the Home Controller

HC-500 controls multi-room music, smart lighting, advanced temperature

control, security and many other home automation sub-systems.

"The HC-500 perfectly complements our existing Home Controller

Family, rounding out our HD, high performance capabilities and

continues Control4's central mission of delivering an affordable home

automation experience to the broadest market possible," said Will

West, Chief Executive Officer, Control4. "The combination of improved

processing, high-definition screen graphics and expansion capabilities

as well as the new industrial design makes this a core part of the

platform for the digital home."

The HC-500 joins Control4's successful line of high-performance

home controllers, including the HC-300 and HC-1000. The HC-500 is an

excellent Media Server, with 160GB of storage and both digital and

analog audio processing capability. The HC-500 supports enough I/O

connections to support complex home theaters:

-- Memory, storage, and processing power to maximize the

performance of Control4 whole-home automation systems with

large home theaters

-- HD on-screen output significantly enhances the visually

intuitive Control4 graphic interface for controlling the home

-- An entirely new industrial design with an anodized black

aluminum chassis and a glossy black faceplate circled with

warm metallic nickel accents

-- Extensive I/O, including four serial ports (DB9) for increased

flexibility in device control

-- Audio Encoding and Decoding for full support of both Analog

and Digital audio libraries.

-- Analog and Digital Audio input and output jacks.

-- Expansion capabilities via two USB ports and one Ethernet jack

-- Backwards compatibility with all Control4 products

Control4's HC-300 or HC-500 replaces, on average, more than four

traditional remotes and delivers easy navigation and operation through

a single, universal Control4 system remote control. The Home

Controller HC-500 offers multiple infrared and serial connections and

video sensing for easy home theater integration. In addition, the

HC-500 offers a comprehensive range of standards-based communication

technology including Ethernet, WiFi, and ZigBee mesh networking and

expansion through two standard USB 2.0 ports. For a complete listing

of product specifications please visit www.control4.com.

That is a disappointing price. In the like above that had the touchscreen info they had a retail price of $700 for the HC-500. I was going to upgrade my MC but now I am going to wait. It feels like C4's pricing is going in the opposite direction of it's stated mission.

bunch of press releases on c4 webiste. looks good if you already subscribe to rhapsody. no mention yet of the 7'' touchsreen or any other hardware besides the hc 500. the price of the hc500 shouldn't be a surprise b/c its meant to replace the old media controller which ran at the same price. I'd be curious if anyone at ces can comment about what's being shown at the partner pavillions, especially denon.

thanks,

tum

Well that may be the dealer pricing

The end-user wasn't really supposed to see that document.

Just a thought
