3 way switch configurations?

drmark12pa

Question

I just moved into a new home this week and brought my C4 equipment with me.  However, there are many more 3 way lights (ie there are 3 banks of can lights in kitchen!) in this new house which proves a problem since I do not have a lot of auxillary keypads for the other end of the 3way (I had a couple in my old house that I took with me).  I am wondering what my options would be if I put a keypad dimmer or a standard dimmer on the load end, what would be required on the other end to make the 3way work properly with C4 equipment?  I don't relish the idea in the kitchen of having 3 dimmers on one end and an additional 3 auxillary keypads on the other unless the other end were for example wireless keypads.

You can blank the 3way side and use keypad buttons to replicate functionality.

But if you want a 'switch' at the 3way side, it has to be the correct AUX based on the series of the main Control4 device.

Example:
Island, Counter, Ceiling, in two 3 gang boxes all wired for 3 ways
Box A, Put a Key/Dimmer on island, a blank on counter and a AUX for ceiling.
Box B, A blank on island, a Key/Dimmer on counter, and a Dimmer on ceiling.

I would recommend you get some configurable keypads for the non load 3 way switches. I believe you can use the power and then you have a lot more functionality. That’s what I’m planning to do.Plus you can get them engraved, they have LEDs, programming, etc.

At least I’m hoping that will work . . .😀

That will work fine.
When we have the option, we primarily use AUX only where there's a possible saftey issue, for example a stairway. Those we want to work regardless of processor online, or anything else.

VERY good point! Didn’t think of that. Thanks for the tip!
