@South Africa C4 user that is an interesting idea.     I apologize to both of you - but I should have mentioned that I'd like color capable lights.  I have a set of Jandy pool lights which are color controllable, but they don't have a very good range... but pool lights...... interesting.  Thanks!

I like the Pentair lights as they have rich colours and their colour swim is incredible if you have enough lights to make it worthwhile.

My issue with my pool lights (Jandy) is that they list 10 colors I can choose from, and that's it.  I can't adjust to a specific colour and I can't dim them.

Pentair lights (at least the ones I have) also cannot dim.  They also limit you to 6 or 7 colours and 5 colour shows.  But, you can save any colour that you see in the colour show for later use.

The basic kits look like you could just put a Shelly RGBW on them like you would an indoor string.
..with the right waterproof splice, extension and waterproof enclosure for the Shelly.

That's ... Not really a bad idea at all. Thanks for the idea.  I'm going to put this on my list of things to try.
