Steve7485
We want to install some smart lighted ceiling fans where our C4-controlled patio lights currently are. I assume C4 will interfere with the proper operation of the fans, so would like to take that circuit off of the C4 system. Is that possible? How would I do it, if so? Neo1738
What makes you think C4 will interfere w the fans? Actually most fans can be controlled by C4 with either a Fan Switch or using a Bond Bridge to control (if has RF).
RAV
Depends on the wiring.... Ceiling fans should be done with 2 switched hot legs, one for fan and one for lights. If you're not prepped that way, then yes, you're going to need to address the Control4 side of things. If it's a Control4 switch (not a dimmer or dimmer keypad) than you can keep the Control4, change from light to fan and the Control4 switch will turn power to fan and light on/off, you'll adjust speed and dim from the Fan's remote/app. If it's a Control4 dimmer, you're going to need to change it. If it was prepped with 2 hots, then add the fan and continue to use Control4 for the lights portion, app for the fan.
Steve7485
So, I just went ahead and installed the fan/lights. Sure enough, what I feared might happen has happened. Whenever 10 p.m. rolls around (when the Control4 system is set to turn the lights on -- or dim them, I don't remember which), the lights on the fans start flickering/pulsing -- dimming and brightening intermittently. Apparently, Control4 is trying to override whatever the lights have been set to through their app (Modern Forms). To overcome this, I have to turn the lights off at the wall dimmer switch. Then, after I flip the switch back on, they'll operate based on the app settings and the flickering/pulsing will stop. This is why I'd like to somehow sever this particular circuit from the Control4 system.
Neo1738
Why not just remove any programming for that light/switch? C4 won't turn anything on or off without a touch or programming.
msgreenf
Already done! I helped @Steve7485yesterday. We upgraded from 2.9.0 to 3.3.1, added the modern forms fans, added Sonos, removed the programming and also unbound the keypad buttons from the load so that the fans can’t be turned off! Pretty successful and all in about 45 min Amr, Matt Lowe and Neo1738 2
