RyanM84
Hello hoping for some insight. My system was installed by a local AV company originally using an iPad and C4 to turn off system, adjust lights, switch between dvd/Apple TV/ etc. at some point C4 started to not connect or would connect but stop working while in use (no control of lights or system even after it was used to turn everything on). Recently needed to have some service and the old iPad couldn’t support the new iOS3. Used another and during the service call connection was re-established and working. The system has always been on Wi-Fi as there wasn’t a hard line to the system from the router. I’m now being told that a hard line may fix the issue (of course cutting holes, drywall patch, etc) but nothing there is giving me a good feeling that this will fix the issue and keep my iPad connected. Are there suggestions from others who may have experienced an issue such as this? I’d be happy to go with a different controller but if Wi-Fi and the app don’t work well together then it may not matter what I use to control the system. System is my theater room with typical equipment. thanks in advance. Ryan
cnicholson
Not a lot of detail go on, but have you tried installing the Control4 app on your phone and seeing if that works? It is possible to run your Control4 controller over WiFi (as you apparently have been doing), but it's not recommended. That said, if it was working before, I see no reason why you would need a hardwired connection to get it back to where it was. If WiFi signal is weak, consider a WiFi extender to ensure solid connection. Good luck.
msgreenf
WiFi really isn’t recommended and no don’t use a WiFi extender - those introduce more problems. I would ask if you have it on 5ghz or 2.4? 2.4 has more interference. I would consider a Ethernet over power adapter. That is better then wifi
cdcllc
If practical, you can run a cable between the C4 control box and your router/switch out in the open to see if it solves the problem before you open up walls, etc. And if you are able to do it and it works, I wouldn’t just jump in and open walls, I’d take a step back and determine what would be the optimal equipment location(s) and compare that level of effort/cost before proceeding. I also recommend discussing a plan of action like this with your dealer beforehand to get them onboard and ready to provide assistance as needed. eggzlot
Stand next to the ipad in question and use a laptop/other tablet/mobile device on WiFi using the C4 app or other apps. How is the signal? It may be a bad signal in that area as others have pointed out. So you could try to run a wire to hardwire the device, or run a wire to get an access point there to increase the WiFi coverage. pretty much said what is above but you can easily test it out yourself with other devices in that area.
