I've heard of numerous issues with both, specifically with reliability.

I mean we use Paradox systems which are completely hardwired with the driver central cinegration driver and its absolutely superb. NOt alot of paradox dealers around though but the system is top notch and I cant reccomend it enough.

  2. Swapping to DIY gear would be an terrible down grade. You really can't compare it to C4. Like mentioned if you call a plumber for plumbing then you might as well call a qualified tech in to help with AV stuff.

but as far as DIY goes here's your best bet.

    Harmony for Remotes

    Sonos for Audio

    Caseta for Lighting

    Ring for doorbell/cameras

    Nest For Thermostat.

    MyQ for Garage

Alarm systems really aren't DIY but you could look at alarm.com

And that should replace most of the C4 system. But yea the stuff above sucks big time in comparison.

Why not continue to use them?  What are they missing?

They are missing the ability to be ordered from the dealer portal as they are no longer being manufactured. Buying used stuff from sketchy parts of the internet doesn't appeal to me.

For 8 zone your only option is the Triad 8 Zone Matrix + 8 Zone Amp + 8 RCA Cables + Way Longer Installation + Trigger Cables ugh....

I mean dont get me wrong the triad stuff looks and sound amazing. It works great. I'll just always be a Matrix Amp kinda guy from 8 zones or less. I get it for over 8 zones, but under 8 should all be in one box.

  4. The New Triad Amps are a much better than the old power amps you have. Those things sucked.

Call me crazy but I miss the crap outta the old 8 zone matrix amp. They still make the 4 zone and I wish they would bring back the 8 zone. It was near perfect (except lack of digital inputs which is fine really)

  5. You have a few options when trying to stream YouTube off an Android device.

1.) Go bluetooth. Bluetooth sucks range is terrible. Get a WMB or any generic dongle. Make sure dongle is in same room you plan on having your phone in.

2.) Chromecast. You will need to buy a google Chomecast then you will need a HDMI to Analog audio adapter that probaly costs 2-3x as much as the Chromecast did. Then hook the chromecast up to your amp. For best performance you can get a USB Ethernet adapter so the Chromecast isn't on wifi. By the Time you get the Chromecast, The Ethernet Adapter, and the HDMI audio converter it adds up. But this is the best solution for android streaming. (Or source out an old school chromecast audio)

3.) Switch to iOS (boo!) and use shairbridge. (Im an android guy personally)

Do the chromecast solution. It may be expensive, but its the best option.

  6. I do things differently then most.

I use Green for On and Red for Off. There is no mistaking that configuration. The default is Blue on and black or nothing for off which I dont care for.

The blue is nice and I use blue/Black to represent audio. So if I have a Shairbridge button and its the active source the button is blue, but if its a different source or turned off then the button is black.

The Green/Red works great for lighting though.

  7. I mean it would be expensive AF but how sweet would it be to have a Triad One + Triad Custom Soundbar + Triad Active Subwoofer in every room? You would probably want to put in Versa Boxes and Strong Mounts behind each TV and make sure you have ethernet for best performance but man that would be a superb system. Then the Triad Ones have IR output as well for anything else you might need to control behind the TV.

But as far as Soundbar system Vs. Ceiling Speaker the Triad Soundbar system would blow it out of the water.

  8. WMB is best way to have bluetooth. Atleast it pulls in full meta data and such.

But really any bluetooth dongle on amazon will work just fine. Just use a no control driver and call it bluetooth.

Watch out as bluetooth range is 15 ft line of sight. No way your going to have it in a basement rack and bluetooth from the main floor kitchen.

Your better off using Shairbridge (or an apple airport express) or Using Chromecast and sourcing out an HDMI to analog audio adapter (or an old school Chomecast Audio)

  9. I used to use alot of Sanus their stuff is great but pretty pricey.

Strong Mounts are good but can get pricey too.

I've been using MSTR Brand recently which aren't the best mounts on the market, but their pricing is awesome and the product is half decent.

  10. I find it super odd that the old dealer took the controller but left the touchscreen.

I would guess there is a controller in there somewhere, its jjust probably not pluggied into the network as you might have switched ISPs and such.

  11. The engravings and plates hold up very well.

IMO the best finish is a Matte White or Matte Black (Snow White / Midnight Black) with the stainless steel Control4 plate. But damn the plates are expensive. I would personally just stick with Matte stuff, except maybe in the kitchen if you have stanless appliances and such maybe get the stainless plates on the backsplash there or something

  12. You will be fine with some nice 14/2 speaker wire. 12/2 would be overkill and i have never needed 10/2 speaker wire for any application before.

Landscape speakers are usually 70v and aren't as prone to volt drop as an 8 ohm speaker would be. If your landscape speakers are 70v you could prob even get away with 16/2.

    Long story short use 14/2
