ashwinmj
I’m trying to program a few actions when an LG TV powers on or powers off. The TV is being controlled by IP. It doesn’t seem like Control4 is able to detect the TV actually powering on or off, because none of the programming actually executes when these events happen. Has anyone else had trouble with this? Jeff W
Have you tried using / programming with the "Room Control" Driver? You may be able to achieve custom programming using this driver. Rather than monitoring the TV, you could program based on the room's variables. You may need a dealer to install it, but it may be able to achieve what you're after. Thanks @South Africa C4 user. I’m using the official Control4 driver (https://drivers.control4.com/solr/drivers/browse?q=lg+86sm9400pta&fq=primaryProxy%3A"tv"&fq=controlMethod%3A"ip"). It says the creator is Control4. Would you recommend the Annex4 driver instead? 2 hours ago, Jeff W said: Have you tried using / programming with the "Room Control" Driver? I’m trying to turn the room on based on detection of the TV turning on from places triggered outside of C4. So if I AirPlay to the TV directly using my iPhone, I want C4 to detect this, and show that there’s an active session going on. I assume that the room control driver would need C4 to have already detected that the room is on. Am I right in this assumption?
Jeff W
@ashwinmj I just took a few minutes to test your use case using Room Control. I can confirm the "Room Control" driver does not work. I Created programming that when the room entered to watch mode to activate a light in my room. it could not do it using my iPhone to automatically turn on the TV via Airplay. I could trigger a light to turn on when the TV is turned from the navigators inside Control4. I used a Sony TV that has an IP driver but same results as you. ashwinmj
@Jeff W thanks for trying that out so quick. That’s the reason I was hoping to create an event using the TV driver. Every time the TV powers on, if the room is off, turn on the room to the TV as the video source. But the event of the TV powering on doesn’t seem to get detected. No programming on this event ever executes. The problem without this is that turning off the TV is a 2 step process once I airplay to the TV. I have to first turn on the TV in C4 (even though it’s already on), and then turn the room off.
South Africa C4 user
I will try and see if the Annex4 driver would meet your use case. I find the driver really good and I love that it allows Toast Messages (messages that pop up on the TV screen).
ashwinmj
@South Africa C4 user thank you. I hope it's able to work for my use case. What kind of Toast Messages have you programmed? I'm just curious to know the kind of use cases it would be most valuable in.

Apologies for getting your hopes up - just tested this and no, the driver does not pick up the TV being turned on from another source. My 4 main uses of Toast messages are : 1. Someone is at the door. 2. There has been a power cut / power returned, 3. The main water supply has been interrupted / returned. 4. I use @Shivam Paw’S text to speech driver to allow anyone in the house to send announcements to any (or all) room(s) in the house. An option that I give people when doing this is to also display the message (as text) on any TVs that are currently turned on.
ashwinmj
We realized the Control4 driver doesn't work on any event triggered by another source. For example, any programming on the TV's input changing doesn't execute if the input is changed using the TV's remote. Doesn't seem to be on issue with the power on event alone. Is there any chance you would be able to try if the Annex4 driver responds to any other event other than power on? How do you detect if your main water supply has been interrupted? The text to speech driver looks cool! I'll check that out.
lippavisual
You could try to use a contact on a controller or z2io. Plug a usb cable in to the tv, when the tv turns on, it supplies 5V. Pretty sure when it turns off, so does the usb port. You'd also have to use a multimeter to find out which wires are ground and power. ashwinmj
Thanks @lippavisual. I’m going to try that. I have one EA3 and 2 EA1s. Does this mean I can use this approach for only 1 TV, without having to buy the Z2IO?
lippavisual
The EA3 does have a contact input, so you can use that.
ashwinmj
Thanks @lippavisual. This worked like a charm! I have 2 TVs that had the same problem. I have a total of 1 EA3 and 2 EA1's. I used the contact input on my EA3 for one TV. For the second TV, can I use any connection on my controllers, or is the Z2IO the only option? Unfortunately, I can only check this in 3 week’s time as I have 2 houses and only one has LG TVs and I moved from the one to the other yesterday, in terms of determining if I have lost water supply, I use a Flo by Moen valve to measure water flow and pressure. I also use it as an emergency shut off valve. Obviously linked in to C4. The Text to Speech driver is cool!
lippavisual
EA1’s don’t have contact inputs. So your options are z2io’s or IOX or another controller. glad it worked out for you.

Do you know if there's a way to integrate the Grohe Sense into Control4? 4 hours ago, lippavisual said: EA1’s don’t have contact inputs. South Africa C4 user
I am not aware of any Grohe integration.
