Nehsmit Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hi all,I have gotten quite a fewC4 quotes but 1of them is replacing the C4 8 zone amp with a channel vision 4 input 6zone matrix amp. Any thoughts on this? Will it work as well as the C4 amp? Price difference is huge.Thanks.
Nehsmit Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 NoNo it won't work as well or no it won't work at all? Thanks
RyanE Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 1) Price-comparing a 6x4 matrix with an 8x8 matrix is really apples and oranges.2) With a fully 2-way controllable device (i.e. IP or RS232), the differences are going to mainly be in capabilities of the devices.3) Control4's amplifier doesn't require a 3rd-party driver. Not that 3rd-party drivers make it much more complicated, as Control4 has a very mature driver model.Control4's 8-zone amp is a great amp. It has gold plated binding posts. It's IP controlled. It supports 100 watts/channel, down to 4 Ohms, has a built-in matrix switch (as it appears does the Channel Vision), and has a 5-band parametric equalizer built-in, where you can adjust specifics of parts of the signal to be amplified, and adjust their gain separately.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equalization_(audio)#Parametric_equalizerDisclaimer: I've never used the Channel vision product. It could be awesome, but most dealers (and thus most people) go with the Control4 amplifier, to keep things simple.RyanE

RyanE Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I can't say overall, because I've never used other amps. When I say capabilities, it's like Alan said in another thread in reference to an amp, it had volume + and volume -, but the protocol had no way to set discrete volume. If the amp's protocol can't do it, the driver can't magically make it happen. Also, some amps have more watts/channel, or additional features, etc.RyanE
ILoveC4 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Get the Control4 amp. There isn't another amp on the market that offers a similar feature set at a competitive price. It's a great deal. Not having discrete/direct volume control and feedback would SUCK.

cdepaola Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 AudioAuthority just came out with a new matrix amp that's better priced with the same feature set.
cdepaola Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Yes IP and serial control4 drivers are available. The unit has 16 inputs or 8 stereo inputs and 16 amplified outputs that can be run mono, stereo, or a combo. It also has two add on inputs that can be analog, digital, mic line, or balanced audio. MSRP is $2989, they will go cheaper. This is a strong contender to the C4 amp.

Also at this price point isn't it just better to get the C4 8 zone amp for $2500?Thanks.
