snipboy
Can I use an HC-800 to upgrade the firmware on Embernet devices like I can with an HC-300 or HC-250?
dcovach
Nope. HC250, HC300, HC200
Matt Lowe
An HC800 or HC250 cannot be used as an Embernet Update Controller. You must use an older controller (HC200/300/500) to update an Embernet device to ZigBee Pro.

It would be way over kill for that task if it had to be purchased. I could be wrong...
snipboy
hmmmmmm. About to make a purchase here. One or the other.
lippavisual
No, HC200/300/500 controllers only. HC250 and HC800 never had embernet radios, therefore they are not capable of the upgrade. This is why most shops probably have a lingering controller or 2 for this reason. Matt Lowe
zaphod
If anyone really needs an HC300 I will be happy to trade one for an EA-5, and, since I am feeling generous, I will even do it straight up! Matt Lowe and brucecampbell

I double checked and both you and @Matt Lowe are correct. Thanks. Its been a while. Is there a chance I had an hc250 on os 2.5.3 and added an hc300 to be the embernet upgrade controller? Or am spreading another falsehood? Matt Lowe
lippavisual
Correct, system must be on 2.5.3 or lower, so that an HC200/300/500 can be added to project for the upgrade. I just keep a HC200 in my office, powered off most of the time, just for this purpose. Already has a project loaded, just have to identify the lights.
