CHIME QUESTION

Recommended Posts

All,

With the new Chime doorbell, does one have to have a physically wired interior bell to sound when the doorbell is rung, or can this be done through C4 with the overhead speakers in whichever zones we select?

It can be done with physical speakers,  and if you have any touch screens, I can come through that too

Like where it actually makes a sound through the touchscreens? Also, if listening to music at the same time on the speakers, does the music pause?

Yes, the touchscreens can make a noise to alert you, although from past experience it isn't very loud and is often missed.

If you want the doorbell sound through ceiling speakers, the music can pause then resume if programmed to do so (and supported by the source you are using).

This is not accurate. Announcements will automatically  play the doorbell sound trough the speakers and resume the music afterwards regardless of the source selected. The selected source has nothing to do with this feature. This is a built in feature in Control4 and it doesn’t require any special programming, except for the creation of the announcement and the execution when the doorbell is pressed.

And I would further say that "music" should be replaced with "audio" in these statements as this is just as true if you are watching TV and sound is coming through C4. That all works automatically as C4 will take over the audio and send an announcement with a C4 controller as the temporary audio source.

The thing you don't want is to have to power on an AVR to make a C4 announcement as that can take 15-30 seconds which is too much of a delay when you want to respond to a doorbell press, or too much of a delay for any announcement.

The Announcement Agent will swap sources, sure, but I didn't think it hit pause before doing so though, meaning the source would continue on in the background and you will have missed some of it until the system switches back.

You can program a pause then play but do know if something is paused when doorbell is pressed it will try to start playing it. Happened once or twice when watchign a show, pause to do something quick, doorbell pressed and now my show is running.
