Chime vs nest/ring

Question

Posted

I previously had a nest doorbell camera but it wasn’t working great as people couldn’t hear me. When I upgraded into control4 for my house, i was talked into getting the chime. I like how I can see the camera and use the motion sensor to turn on my porch and outside flood lights. I hate it for the sole purpose it was created in that it’s hard to access to history and pretty worthless when trying to answer a call when someone rings it.

im considering to rip it out and sell it on eBay and then just installing a new ring or best camera. I saw there is a driver so I can use the motion sensor which is important to me.

my installer told me that ring and nest still have that problem in that there is a long delay when someone rings the doorbell. Right now, it takes 30 seconds to 2 min for the control4 screen +’intercom to load up before I can see who is there or talk.  Is there a long delay with ring/nest? I don’t think there is a way to incorporate the ring camera live view into control4 but I’m okay with that. The history is so much easier to view.

I have other cameras set up through hikvision and can view them on control4. Is there a way to bring the ring camera into hikvision and then view it that way?

Something is wrong here. Am sure this is network related some how, are u connected to the chime wireless? I have the much older tech DS2 Mini and it’s instant to receive Full Video/Audio on my 13 T3’s, so with much newer technology like Chime this should be the same!?

First - no there is no way to bring the ring camera into C4.

Second - what you're seeing is indeed not right - it should be pretty much instant (I can see you seeing a loading circle for a moment, but less than a second is what I get on a chime (wifi!) myself. If anything I have a DS2 as well and it's a hair slower for me than the chime

Is yours a WiFi version? If so I’d be interested in buying off you. Feel free to dm me.

Even when your out on cell signal (assuming strong connection), was connection pretty instant? When I load control4 via cell signal, it loads quickly but the intercom takes longer to load

There's a difference between doorbell to phone on wifi or cell data - but for me it's usually under 5 seconds on cell - if I'm on wifi, it's about a second - the instant is using a native touchscreen (I was following Amr comment on that one)

I get Audio/Video from DS2 Mini the same moment the Doorbell “rings” on my T3’s, this is all local by description, doesn’t matter on POE or WiFi everything rings the same moment!

For Mobile specifically iPhones that’s a different story, WiFi or GSM it’s hit and miss for Video but Audio connects instantly I could say less than 5 sec on WiFi and around 10 sec on GSM, network differs great deal am all 4G here!
