  1. I got my daughter a Chromebook and I installed the C4 Android app from the Google Play store. It works ok, except that it comes up looking like a phone with portrait mode. Anyone know how to use it full screen?
  2. That works surprisingly well. I had never used Bluestacks before. Thanks!
  3. I keep C4 for PC running all the time on some of my PCs as when I am working this can be the quickest way to do the the tasks mentioned by the OP - start some music, turn on lights, etc. To be honest it is kind of slow and kludgey, as it takes about a fortnight to startup, but it does the job. I hope it gets replaced soon with something more modern than Flash - ideally this would be a web based UI run through a browser. And so would Composer HE for that matter.
  4. Umm, it's 2018. There's this website called Amazon that sells pretty much whatever you want and can get it to you within a day or so...
  5. @AidenL- maybe your best course of action is to use Harmony for controlling your AV equipment and keep some C4 devices/ keypads for lights as lighting should be simpler to control and may not need any attention from a dealer. On a regular basis C4 users pop up here who have a system that hasn't been updated in many years so you don't always need to be paying lots of money to a dealer to keep things going. I am using a combination of C4 and Harmony for controlling my AV. I have used Harmony for years, the family are used to the remotes, and I have full control over making changes to components. But I do like the benefit of having everything fully integrated into the system with C4. So I have started to use C4 remotes but the family prefers sticking with the old Harmony remotes.
  6. If you are tech-savvy then instead of a NAS you might want to consider a DIY unRAID server. unRAID is a version of Linux that is essentially an OS for a NAS. But it lets you run Dockers that are applications of various sorts, such as Plex, Kodi, etc. You can also use it to host Virtual Machines of Windows, Linux, etc. And it is more flexible in terms of the hardware you use such as hard drive, CPU, etc. You can essentially use whatever you want. So if you have an old PC lying around you could use that as your unRAID server.
  7. I am one of the folks that likes Unifi. You don't need a 48 port PoE switch. You pay a large premium for PoE switches and you probably only need about 4-5 powered ports at most - one for each Access Point (AP). But if you have any interest in having cameras then you may also want to have enough PoE ports to also supply cameras as it often makes sense to use PoE for cameras. So you could get by with an 8 or 16 port PoE switch plus another switch that is non-PoE. Unifi also has outdoor access points - I have one on my pool cabana. It manages to survive Canadian outdoor weather with temperatures from about -22C to +35C.
  8. You don't need a puck - just a switch, or more likely a dimmer. The main switch/dimmer will manage the load - which means that it actually directly controls the electricity flowing through the wire. You can add additional C4 keypads of various types if you want to be able to control the light from different parts of the room - or even other rooms. Or you could use a Touchpad, app on your phone/tablet, Alexa, Siri (via HomeBridge), etc.
  9. It is not clear to me from that doc - so is there now an API that works with any Infinity system, even if it is several years old, or is this just for newer systems? This has been around for a little while as that doc is almost 1.5 years old and it is version 1.6, for whatever that is worth.
  10. Yes, even if you don't have a controller you can turn the lights on and off. But then you have paid ~$150 for a $2 light switch with nice LEDs.
  11. That's annoying. I don't think I have any damper control and I can live without the reminders to change my filter. I don't know if I use the variable speed, humidity or pressure sensing.
  12. Fair enough - I generally think of prices in USD on the forum since that is more comparable across countries. And Amazon.ca has them for $65 for 4 so that is only C$16.25 apiece.
  13. Actually less than that - Amazon has four packs of the white bulbs for $50 - that seems to be the regular price now. Two bulb packs are $30. https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Equivalent-Dimmable-Compatible-Assistant/dp/B073SSK6P8
  14. I put in two C4 t-stats, one for each furnace/ac, when I installed C4 a decade ago. But one of the thermostats gave me a lot of trouble and I replaced it with a dumb thermostat. Then the furnace was replaced so I went with the Carrier thermostat - but there is no reason that you have to go with their thermostat, is there? Can't you use anything that you want?
  15. It is clear that you need a SAM - but why? Is it just because Carrier is closed-minded and doesn't allow anyone else to access the system? Is is asinine that you need to install an RS-232 interface to a thermostat that has IP connectivity. And now to hear that there are other drawbacks as well! My next furnace will be ABC - Anything But Carrier, and I will need another one soon as my house was expanded and renovated in 92 and has two furnaces. One of them was replaced a couple of years ago but the other one is now 26 years old.
  16. I also have a Carrier Infinity Tstat but it is several years old. I was also told that I need a SAM. In some ways that makes no sense since there must be IP connectivity as you can use an app or web interface to access your Tstat. That is a stupid design if you ask me.
  17. Control4 switches are a better long term solution but also way more expensive. C4 switches or dimmers are something like $150 + labor. Hue white bulbs are about $15-$20 each. And you have the option of color bulbs as well. You have to initially buy a hub but you can get two white bulbs plus a hub for about $70 For the most part I have C4 light switches or dimmers but I do have some Hue bulbs installed in a few places. One issue is that you have to ensure that no one turns off the switch to the Hue bulbs or they become useless.
  18. None for you today but if you get C4 hardware it is a way to control C4 hardware from HomeKit. I think you can even control non-C4 stuff that is controlled by C4 that doesn't work with HomeKit as well. For example I have a Hue V1 hub which doesn't work with HomeKit - you need V2. But with Homebridge I can no control those lights in HomeKit. I have dozens of C4 light dimmers and switches that I can now control with HomeKit.
  19. Unfortunately it only works in the other direction - it only lets you use HomeKit to control C4 devices, not the other way around. You also need a Homebridge hub - you can use your own Rasb Pi or buy one from Joshua with everything preinstalled.
  20. One more thing Joshua - the Homebridge web UI now says that I don't have the latest Control4 driver. How do I tell which version of the driver that I have?
  21. I just noticed that on my Homebridge Rpi I have 11 processes of apache2 running. Does that make sense? I don't think I use my Homebridge Pi for anything else so there shouldn't be anything else causing apache2 to run.
  22. Where are you located? I took a quick look and it doesn't look like any of those have the same connectors. So you may have to rewire a connector to get those to work. And some of those are not the same size either so it might be tricky to screw them down to the case. You might want to keep buying used HC-300s for cheap prices.
  23. Ok good, am I correct that devices like C4 Matrix amps and Music Bridge are the types of devices that have discrete volume? Anything else - like amps connected via IP or serial that have two way comms?
