  1. That's so something I do not understand. Searching in my programming in HE would be sooooo much appreciated to find bugs.....
  2. And that is why I say Control4 has to move away from hardware sales as the main driver for revenue. Then they could easier afford to keep an older HC in the system working as a secondary HC or a ZAP or IR device. It would also be better for the environment....
  3. And exactly that is my point. There is NO reason for a device like a door station NOT to work with a new OS, just like a light switch - it does not need a new function, it could continue to "just be a door station". Therefore it is NOT OK to have to remove it for the new OS - such behavior does not benefit the brand, it will scare ppl away as no one wants to spent 1200$ every 6 to 8 years just to stay on the current OS. If you believe different then please explain to me why the DS cannot work with OS3 on a technical level - I. E. Why can't it continue to provide a door bell sound and audio video under OS while it can do it with OS 2.x
  4. You cannot compare a smartphone with something that is part of house. Home automation is in between long lasting parts for houses, like HVAC etc., and short lasting technology - it's a balance act. For me everything that is somehow built into a house, like switches or a door station is something that I expect to work until it breaks, even if it is part of a HA system. So an update to OS3 requiring to remove the doorstation is kinda a red flag here - it's supposed to make sound when someone pressed a button and provide audio and video - since the device was built to do that I don't see a reason why that should not work with OS 3 - it's not like the DS is 100$ piece of kit. I don't expect an older device getting all the new functions, it's just about keeping it working. The next step would be that all light switches are not compatible with OS 3.1 or so..
  5. True, and they shouldn't.. But a doorstation is like a light switch, it is built into the house and should not go EOL / not have to be removed for OS3
  6. Exactly what I am thinking plus more revenue in not hardware based sales..
  7. I didn't mean it was a bailout. The financials were way too good for that. The 40% Premium is nothing compared to the SP being over 30$ for quite a while in 2018 and 2017 - so actually they sold it quite cheap and screwed retail investors (no, I don't own or had owned CTRL) If the company is doing great - Home automation is still in the beginning and the market is growing - and you want to cash in you don't sell at 24 when SP was 30+. Additionally leaders in a market segment, especially if that segment is still growing, don't put themselves up for sale..... that's kinda rare.... In such a position, in case you wann sell, you wait out the China mess, which was one of the reasons for the lowered guidance in the q3 ER call when I am not mistaken, and sell at a higher price later on. For some reason they really wanted to sell and I can't come up with another explanation than that they didn't believe in their product anymore - SnapAV took the chance after the SP droped and baught it on the cheap.
  8. OK, then please give some good reasons why they sold and had such a hard time to find a buyer.
  9. Facts are: Control4 sold itsself because the expectations for revenue, growth and likely so market share were not met and not achievable in the future - otherwise they wouldn't have sold. So from a simple business aspect their business model failed - that really is a fact. The business was based on A - dealer only B - revenue largely based on hardware sales So everyone can do what he wants from that but keep going like that isn't going to turn the boat around will likely lead to a slow death of the platform. Well. Let's see what happens. I hope the platform doesn't die cause it's pretty good...
  10. The issues here is that there is probably no system which guarantees to always go in uniform if grouped - slightly out of sync is always possible. The best performance is probably a wired solution like Sony SDN or KNX in my opinion.
  11. Edit: For Netflix and Prime I use the builtin Apps of the TV.
  12. OK, sorry but here I disagree and I call that straight : BS Anyone who can build a PC and router with VPN can setup a basic, midsized Control4 system as 90% is drag and drop and based on simple logic. If systems gets larger things get different, especially with many ZigBee devices (we had issues once and it was a PITA). All it would need are a couple of tech videos, let's say 25 to 50 a 5 minutes and that's about it for the basics - it would attract a significant amount of new customers to the ecosystem and if I am wrong dealers would get piad to fix it anyway, so from my point of view DIY would be a win win for both sides. PS: The most important thing for a smooth running systems is a good network setup and that is not dependent on Composer Pro and I have seen good dealers struggling with troubleshooting here as well..
  13. I know what Pro can do and how it works because I have worked with it guided over the phone by my dealer about 20 years when we had no internet. Controller registration was once a Hye feature. - I much rather ment what feature it is that wouldn't belong in a DIY pro version if it existet
  14. He's a member since 2010, so I doubt wap had started multiple accounts back then....
  15. If ur business has growth that is great but C4s quarterly filing show not the growth you are experiencing [emoji848] If one writes an email to Control4 they listen and take care of it. But it is not their primary way of support - if that would be the case the knowledge base would be open and they would have an online form or forum to file bug reports for end users - so sorry that's a mood point you made there
  16. Control4 went public because the primary investors wanted their money/investment back - they only choice was an IPO at the time
  17. If C4 is the best HA system available they wouldn't have had such a hard time to sell the company - so for anyone of those alleged 70 interested parties it obviously wasn't the best choice... Since I don't have Pro what are the features within Pro which can be hazardous in customer hand?
  18. Since growth wasn't good it most likely can only be achieved by lowering entry cost and addressing DIY. Sell ea3's for 300 to 500, eat for 1200 to 1500 and make the whole ecosystem based on subscriptions and price it by project size. To keep the dealer happy they could get a cut of the subscription based on zip codes or whatever.... C4s argument for being dealer based was that this ensures high quality. Going hardware less, like with an app will likely compromise the stability of the system. I think the Control4 controller in conjunction with the software is the main reason for the solid platform - going to be an IoT system certainly isn't what Control4 wants and should be. I doubt that a separation between DIY system software and dealer software makes sense. Anyone who has been with Control4 in the 1st days knows that setting up a small to mid-size system with a TV, AVR, contacts and lights is a no brainer for anyone who has grown up with software and hardware - the more complex it gets the more a knowledgeable dealer pays off. So devices could be grouped in categories of DIY or dealer installable or it could depend on the project size My 2cents
  19. That doesn't mean that some of the SnapAV dealers won't become Control4 dealers as well to get some piece of the pie....
