Doing cat6 or 6 cables to most location is certainly a good idea if re-cabling the house is done. When it comes to lighting and keypads there is not that much choice at the higher end (Lower end there is ZWave). The largest choice of those is KNX, from Glas Touch OLED keypads to futuristic ones like from Basalte - I have seen ones from 80€all up to over 1000€ per piece. Going KNX will also require re routing power cables for lights (like structured wiring) , so this isn't an easy task - and KNX only works with KNX cable, you will not find an installer doing KNX over a Cat6 cable even though it technically is possible (we tried for the same reason) To my knowledge there are no keypads controlled by Cat6 cables and since the largest standard is KNX, which can do pretty much anything, there is no need for cat based controls. Mesh based wireless devices are really really good, not comparable to WiFi which has dropouts etc... The Control4 ones are really high quality hardware and work really well - only downside is the looks. Bottoms line: Largest variety: KNX If looks of Control4 is OK, go with Control4 keypads and dimmers and amybe some touchscreens via Cat6 (if u have a Control4 system and intend to keep it) Q: What is the point of using Fibre optic cables at home? They have a higher overall latency than copper on shorter lengths and aren't as durable when it comes to corners /bends As long as you don't need more than 20gbs there is no need for Fibre optics
