I stand by my comment that there is nothing revolutionary or evolutionary about sending RS232/IR/Relay signals. The Control4 system as a whole is both revolutionary and evolutionary, sending basic signals by a slave controller, not so much.

I'm glad that Control4 does everything in its power to not deprecate hardware.  However, for whatever reasons some of which you have outlined, the HC250 is now useless beyond 2.10, 7 years after it was sold as a behind the TV I/O and OSD device.  So what next?  Buy an EA1 so it's EOL'ed in 4 years, again and again or just a buy a third party device that is less expensive and will perform the basic set of functions that people use the HC250 for?

    As to your comment:

"tells me that you have some in-depth knowledge about Control4 hardware and software that I’m not aware of."

I have been a Control4 customer for nearly 8 years and have referred many other people to Control4.  A quick perusal of my posting history would have given you an idea of how much dumber I am then a Control4 engineer.

C4 is offering a 15% discount on new hardware. I don't think paying $425 for an EA1 (or three) should be burdensome for a few years of functionality -- that said I suspect they'll be useful for 5-7 more years. Have you been to a hotel with 5 year old Crestron (or other hospitality-focused) equipment? The stuff is virtually unusable -- even to simply change TV channels and even at high end hotels! I'd say C4 does a much better job of integrating devices and keeping functionality robust and response times quick even  five years after the hardware has been launched..

....and there is nothing wrong with wanting that.  Don't get me wrong, most people want to get the most out of the stuff they buy, me included.  Its when useful electronic lifespan meets latest and greatest software, then something has to give.  In the case of OS 3, it's C4's right to EOL their products even if they are still useful.   Humans will always see the cynical side as forcing customers to upgrade hardware to get the latest software.   There is probably truth on each side of the legacy hardware vs latest software argument, based on what has been said in last 18 pages of this thread....  In the end, it is still a business and seems this was a business decision.  You cannot make everyone happy all the time.  That is impossible.  You also don't have to upgrade and your existing system as it will still work, until eventual hardware failure forces the upgrade on you.

I agree. There are many contradictory statement on this site -- I want better functionality but please have it work on 7 year old equipment. Hard to reconcile those two bits and I don't know how anyone can expect C4 to upgrade software and functionality, keep adding drivers to make sure many (many!) devices work in concert, and have it all function smoothly on a Pentium processor! IMO C4 is doing the right thing most of the time -- maintain a compelling user experience, keep it reasonably priced, keep it compatible, and keep response times short. So I'm going to be an outlier and say that while I'm as eager for increased functionality as any geek, I understand that evolving equipment and software takes time and money.

  3. We have 7-8 sr260s. Have had for a few years. Now they have varying levels of LED brightness — from strong to barely readable in a lit room. I’ve turned off light sensor and put brightness to max (I have composer HE and am somewhat of an electronics geek) so all settings are correct. Anyone else have this issue? Were there several manufacturers of these units or several changes in spec/manufacturing process?

We also have about 6 of these guys around the house

You have sensitivity on these and it works well - We have one outside

We’ve had big issues with C4 zigbee motions outdoors. They drop off periodically and sometimes persistently. Magically they now offer sensors with antenna. Suspect they added this option due to connection issues. If you get C4 make sure you get the ones WITH antenna.

Pretty certain nothing changed for ZigBee between V1 and V2 of the EA - sounds more like it was a generic hardware failure

EA-5 v2) installed and motions still dropping offline (one anyway). Really don't understand this -- anyone else having issues with C4 motions dropping offline? We've strong zigbee mesh with over 100 lightswitches and two zigbee extenders.

Interesting,  my card acesse wireless motion sensors become unresponsive from time to time... I wonder if a V2 would help...

Yes we’ve had issues with C4 motions (made by cardaccess I believe) going offline. Diamond dealer and now C4 tech has actually been out. Monitoring now but a big pain for over a year. Just noticed there are now motions with “external antenna”.

  7. We had a dedicated iPad in one of those $300 wall installed frames. It stunk. I was excited at first because I figured I could use all my old ipads for C4, but despite being in dedicated C4 mode, the iPad would freeze or someone would find a way out of the C4 app. C4 screens aren’t perfect but they’re much better than iPads. We have one 10” on the wall and a bunch of 7” on stands around the house. All look great and work very well. And the C4 screens aren’t unreasonably priced. They also crash and lock up much less than my iPads!

Okay as far as functionality goes there are a few things like Wake-Up Agent, Intercom and a few others but honestly the T3 is superior in every way. Its not the way the app works, its the way the touchscreen functions. Its always on, its always connected, it doesn't need firmware updates constantly, it doesn't need an Apple ID, it just works.

I have tried everything. Tablets, Wall Mounted Tablets, iPads, Wall mounted iPads, Fixed Mounts, removable mounts (launchport) and even tried the surface mount with buttons.

They just don't compare to the T3.

If your kid wants a tablet to view youtube and facebook, then give them their own iPad, don't try and use the wall mounted one for Control4. Actually just dont use wall mountediPads for control4 at all.

Been a dealer for 7 years and it took a long, long time to get on the Control4 Touchscreen Bandwagon, I guinneapigged so many iPad solutions and at the end of the day not one of them has looked better, and not one of them has worked better.

Its a really tough bill to swallow at $1400 CAD for a 10" T3, But I am certain if you had both an iPad Mini+Launchport and compared that to the T3 mounted on the wall you would use the T3 5x as much and prefer it in every way. Its hard to understand becuase it doesn't do youtube, it doesn't do facebook, technically the iPad is superior in every way on paper, but in practice the T3 wins every time.

Also the 10" is just gorgeous. I almost never sell the 7" becuase the 10" is so nice and doesn't cost much more than the 7"

I couldn’t have said it better. Same as our experience. C4 all the way or you’ll just be fighting the iPad.
