CONTROL4 INTEGRATION FOR FULL MEDIA CONTROL:

"The dd Smart Server is one of the most advanced media servers on planet Earth and is the centerpiece in any home theater or home automation installation. Although it will work perfectly in a non-Control4 installation with the included IR remote control, the best experience may be had by ditching the IR remote and combining the server’s horsepower with a Control4 home automation installation. One of the primary reasons is that each and every dd Smart Server comes with an Extra Vegetables MyMovies driver to enable complete media integration with Control4."

MY MOVIES INTEGRATED MOVIE AUTOMATION:

Place disc in the drive and movie is copied onto server, cataloged with coverart and ready to play

SPECS INCLUDE:

Intel Core-i5 2400S Special Edition Media Server Version Processor (the “S”)

8GB RAM

Five Cooling Fans with Additional Thermal Controller with overheat alarms

LSI/3Ware Hardware RAID Card

Six 2TB SATA Western Digital RAID Hard Drives with Anti-Vibration Technology, not desktop drives. Note that due to the nature of the RAID 5 technology, the actual storage space is approximately 9.1TB.

Media Adapter for movie and large file transfer support in both front and rear of enclosure

Analog and Digital Audio and Video (HDMI, DVI, Display Port, Optical Audio, Analog Audio)

Dual Gigabit LAN with Link Aggregation Capability (IEEE 802.3ad)

Yes.....the server ingests Bluray 2D, Bluray 3D, DVD and audio discs

Hope this helps

Do they still require the Blu-ray disc to be present - in the tray or a carousel? That was my only hangup. Outside of price, which they appear to have addressed in a way with Cinema One.

Think you're mixing things up, the answer was concerning the DDserver. You're asking after the K-Scape. And yes you still need to have the disc in the carrousel - at least officially (meaning I don't know if there may be some hack available to prevent this).

Hi Codeman......K-Scape needs the disc in the tray or vault if bluray and not purchased from their online store

That is certainly the biggest downside other than the cost

^ Awesome bit of kit. I might of considered this PirateM.. if it didn't have so many fans (noise would be a problem in my rack location)...and it wasn't so pricy to ship trans pacific.. I have the DDNas.. It's been fantastic..

Hi Wappinghigh.....surprisngly not as loud as one may think

My components are close to my chairs and it has never been an issue

When the room is off and you get close to it you can certainly hear it but again not an issue otherwise

As far as the shipping cost, this I'm not certain, if truly interested PM me and I'm sure something can be worked out even though I'm not thrilled about shipping outside the US

Last question from me

Why Kaleidescape over this piece?

Hi Kaarchie......K-Scape has always been on my radar since day one, just never had the funds to spare so I've always messed with the NAS units and most recently the DD Server.....I can honestly say this DD Server is the closest to K-Scape as it gets, fun to have fully automated control and not have to spend the extra time, etc involved

Luckily for me, the funds are here and I owe it to that gratitude to Seahawks and Vegas

Sorry, I didn't catch this thread when it started, but lowered to what? Did you add OBO, or am I missing something else?

Thanks!

Hi Harvey......originally I listed the unit as $3500 OBO

Since, I reduced the cost to $2500

I also have a Dune Base 3d if interested

Hope this info helps

John

To clarify on noise, our 12 disk nas drives are loud.  The 6 disck are not to bad at all.  The servers are near silent and designed to be in a theater (room not rack) if the end user wants to use the touchscreen there.  Designed differently for noise.  Both of you are correct (because that big nas is like an airplane loud :) ).
