Composer Pro MacBook Pro m3

Hello, Just picked up a new work laptop MacBook Pro M3 Pro should arrive next week. What is everyone using for emulation? Parallels w/ Win11?

Was also looking at Crossovers and Whiskey? Like the idea of not having to run a full Windows VM just for composer pro.

Most search results on the web are a few years old on the M1 chip. Would love any personal feedback experience with any of the above apps.

Thanks, Happy programming!

I use Parallels on my Mac Studio, and I used to use Fusion on an older Intel-based Mac.  Parallels could not have been easier to set up, and Composer works fine on it. Fusion worked well enough, but (last year at least) the installation process for Apple Silicon devices remained way more complex than it had become on Parallels.

Crossover won't work for composer

I use parallels, but both are pretty much the same these days probably

Keep in mind, if you have software that needs specialist drivers, the drivers won't work unless it has an Arm driver. But this is rare and won't affect c4

I've been using Parallels for years. My subscription just expired.

VMware Fusion works too. Not as fast as parallels and will work better with a lot of memory, but it's free.

Free  ….only for 30 days is it not ? disregard

Ok. That didn't use to be the case. W Broadcom closing on VMware this week I expect the free options to go away

I'm fairly sure it been this way. You may have been grabbing the Pro version?? It's also very misleading on the website - if you go look at pricing, I don't think there are any Free options without a time limit. I think you need to just go download and then register a personal license.

And if Broadcom charges, i'll go back to parallels. or just UTM.

I appreciate everyone's feedback! I created an account to try the VMware Player, (MacBook tracking shows delivery Wed!)  Thinking I'll also buy a Parallels Standard 1 time key tomorrow for Cyber Monday.   Does anyone have any comparison between Parallels Standard 1 time purchase vs The Pro Subscription?

Thanks!

The comparison is on the website. I ended up using the PRO. vmware still uses intel on the mac Mx processor.

The big reason for me going pro, the non-pro is capped at 8MB, so if you want to add memory to a vm, go pro.

Update: testing vmware fusion 13.5 for the past 24hrs with win 11 arm.  After adjusting system allocation setting its running smooth!

I was running smoothly, but not smooth enough. I'm confused why it still is written as an intel app, thus using Rosetta to run arm-based windows. What a mess. But it's a free mess :)

In all honesty, I'm actually considering moving back to AMD.. And selling my Mac Studio. The other shortcoming unfortunately  is things like Nested VT isn't supported
