  1. Cool. Thanks for that... very useful to know... so where (and how) did you back up your entire volume prior to the rework of the box to Vanilla FreeNAS? Did you upgrade the SuperMicro MB as well? How did you find out what MB? Thanks
  2. Well make sure the dealer has it set up correctly.. Also check the setup of any managed switches on the network... ...But this stuff gets complicated very quickly... W
  3. You want to push that analogy? OK. Lets do that... Were they Toyota airbags that failed and prompted the recall? Was it the dealers fault? No They were third party airbags.... The consumer is non the wiser but in their head they think Toyota.. So it's Toyota that has to pay for and do the damage control and the follow up marketing and then direct the recall... Not the consumer, or the car dealer, (and initially) not even the third party... though no doubt Toyota will try recoup some of that later.. Who is actually behind the problem (whatever it is) is irrelevant. W
  4. Sure. The old "Car and the road or bad mechanic" analogy.. But these issues are massive in the mind of the consumer none the less... Why is it that so many don't seem to understand the simple fact that in many instances the consumer (in this case) can't necessarily separate these issues apart? Is that the fault of the consumer or the primary product sales and support teams? All the consumer experiences is a failed outcome... as they are holding a Control4 remote... Control4 gets the blame (right or wrong) so it's Control4 who needs to man up to explaining to the consumer the whole dealer<>consumer relationship.... And what to do if it fails (in whatever particular circumstance) W
  5. That is exactly the gear I have (Cable Modem ...but also capable of being a router) and a Draytek but you should have the Draytek set up as the router... IMHO... you do this by setting the Cable modem in bridge mode... Check your settings would be my advice oh and read this...
  6. One week on.. None? Not one? Brilliant. (not) Ok I'll try an even more direct approach. W
  7. If someone has a DDNAS about c2012 or there about's.. preferably the 12 BAY 2 rack high... (but this isn't crucial..any DDNAS user would help)... could they please send me a PM in order to assist me with some enquiries . Thanks! W
  8. Control4 switches have been one of the most stable things in my Control4 setup. (That is when the C4 mesh is up and the platform is up and running). I have never regretted putting in Control4 switches over other types of switch control. I just wish they would do a Control4 switched GPO like ya'll have in the US... I've been asking for this for years now...probably near on a decade.. So I guess it's never going to happen now Why they never did a 230/240V Control4 GPO when they started marketing their lighting and other mesh switch control into the UK and it's other 230/240V "Allies" pretty much the exact same time as the USA is beyond me... Rock on Control4 W
  9. ^ Not that this is saying hugeness and the sheer number of software engineers (Amazon) necessarily means more "nimbleness" and more "coolness" and a faster release of it's tech developments etc.. It's just if Control4 is way smaller, why doesn't it demonstrate sometimes with it's tech, that it can't be a bit more nimble and bolder sometimes? But I "get it" now with this platform. Its very conservative and it's great as a backbone.. And with it's superb dealer network to lend a hand, It excels at that... Just IMHO and my 2c... Rock on C4! W
  10. ..Zaphod, clearly Alexa is a long term potential competitor to Control4....at the low end... and that's where these things start.. at the low end..... Control4 was once a competitor at the low end with Crestron ... right folks?? ya'll remember that 10 years ago?? For anybody not to see this? Well I'd be gobsmacked if the long term C4 users and dealers around here didn't realise that Alexa could at least become a potential competitor.... I mean they have 5,000 programmers working on the smarts of Alexa right? How many people does Control4 have working specifically on it's smarts? Rock on C4 W
  11. Sure. Such a pity. I would of thought *any* loss of a customer like this would send alarm bells ringing but that’s one of the main issues that’s always discussed around here- the end user is not really Control4’s customer. That’s the brutal fact of their business model everyone needs to 100% get their head around before putting the product in IMHO. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. The big q here ya’ll need to ask yourselves is why is this guy taking his C4 system out? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Fortunately I bought an Emotiva MCH amp... and kept the amp separate from the Control4 audio matrix (as the source).... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Yep I use it too it's great! Thanks as well. W
  15. ^ Sonos connects are starting to sell cheap on ebay I should know I just sold 4 of them... (BTW any lost user of C4 is a negative particularly given the stated reasons). That's one less guy who is going to add value to his platform. Pity. Just sayin.... W
  16. This is way cool and is typical of the awesome work of the one and only and simply awesome Alan chow who continues to set the benchmark of what out great Control4 platforms are capable of...! Alan will you continue to add linked Content services? I mean how many? Is the sky the limit? Alan will these Dongles and your driver work with the Android based Sony TV's? Can a Dongle "command" (once launched) switch to a set app (the same app) on a different device (if there is "double up")? So lets say you have two versions of a Netflix app in the one viewing/room cluster... one on the Sony TV and one on an AppleTV?... The apple TV giving you the better "streaming experience".. Can you set in the driver which particular Netflix "app" will be used? What could potentially break this awesome set up? Can it be "broken"? Could a change in Android break it? Are you able to let us know prior to a droid firmware change? Do you recommend setting potential firmware upgrades to "manual"? W
  17. No answer... Know what. I'm done here making suggestions and throwing around ideas.... Happy New Year Everyone. 2018 is going to be a great year I think and looking forward to 4KHDR finally hitting it's straps and ya'll getting into it and integrating it into your Control4 platforms. Rock on C4!!! W
  18. Who are these "third party companies"? Who could build a Control4 style remote with the additional functioning I mentioned? Thanks
  19. You never seem to read what I say dude.. (edit So I will go back and bold it for you)... I said I accept it was a commercial decision on Control4s part not to do it man so lay off with your wise crack remarks OK? ... If you mean third party companies that have remotes that integrate with Control4? Awesome.. Who are they? Thanks
  20. It's thinking from left field and I know this is sometimes frowned upon around here but in my opinion the best way to control either a PC or a mac with an "outside control device" is via mouse emulation... Right now for example I am having great success on both platforms using my Steam game controller which was super easy to set up and can be ported between platforms to control the PC then straight onto games.. and of course there are other options like all of the other PC mouse pointer devices and mobile keyboard type devices out there... It is such a pity Control4 doesn't have an option here of a different type of handheld "remote" that switches into "USB dongle mode" to control a PC/mac. But we have all been told they don't cater for people like me who think differently and I accept that it's a commercial decision and all etc just saying it's a pity OK? So I'll just continue to swap between remotes... I mean lets face it aint a big deal really, as you can never quite lock away pretty much any remote for any device, as inevitably you'll have to reach for it sometime to get yourself out of a pickle and this is precisely why I keep saying a C4remote with built in backup IR blaster (or make that bluetooth for you Zaphod) is a bloody good idea - but hey lets not go there because there are folks around here who think the system is a pure as a snow flake, and as perfect and stable and well organised and bug free as a mission control NASA flight to the moon - and that once ya'll have Control4 in you never ever have to use an IR remote ever ever again... Rock on C4 W
  21. I aint begging anyone to come up with anything dude. I aint complaining either.. I simply said a Windows driver would be awesome and sweet.. It's you guys with all the negativity here not me dude. (as to why it can't/shouldn't be done.. ) Go back an look at your recent posts. Enough of this already. Over to Zaphod.. Good on him for asking. Rock on C4 W
  22. Here we go again Some of us just do things because we can.. For the challenge and the sheer love of it. If mankind thought about just making money all the time, or "support nightmares" or " large demands" all the time we wouldn't have walked the moon, or made a Tesla. There would be no blockchain/bitcoin and Wall Street wouldn't now be looking at making money out of the next crypto ICO... Cheerio Dude. All good Rock on C4 W
  23. Not always. You've got to spend a bit on innovation and early tech to know what's coming next. A few million here is worth a billion later on.. Pity Steve Jobs isn't still around to argue that one Dude. Wait didn't he start Apple tinkering around modding and breaking AT&T overseas calls? What's happened to 'merica? To many lawyers I guess. W
