  1. Fully agree there are a lot of uncertainties / variables on the home owner (and dealer) side that can affect system stability... But in the end, how are these mitigated and for a customer segment that would only use C4 with some stability "resilience", what would the dealer offer? I guess the contrast would be, sorry customer, too many variables to create a low touch system and you are going to have a tight marriage with me (the dealer) in perpetuity? ps, agree on ISP change but this is one that should be less frequent and easily explained in the sale pitch... eg "when you change ISP, I will need to come in and test / retest A,B,C, etc...
  2. Just curious on dealers view on the pitch for this system... Absolute highest customer / home stability and "minimum dealer intervention" is the design criteria. (eg true "install it and done" system with absolute minimum dealer call outs / touch points other than maybe an annual update) At a minimum the customer needs AV control (eg Room, remote, AVR, streaming device{s}). What elements of lock down are required? What elements of network control are required by the dealer? (eg equipment, montoring, all native C4 devices / drivers, minimum IoT, only devices that can lock IP addresses) What parts of a C4 install are inherently more dealer hands on required (whether it was meant to be or not) and maybe should be avoided (eg garage, lights, alarms, pools, HVAC, etc). Thoughts? As a starting point, i have found my C4 lighting to be very reliable and stable with the exception of C4 outlet dimmers... Amount of dealer intervention after setup has been relatively minor.
  3. I would think the high end Denon's would more than compete with a Pioneer Elite for sound and video quality.... Maybe on a $ to $ comparison the Elite edges it...
  4. Thanks good to know... Wasnt aware of the EDID angle. If i just let the Samsung connect box do the video switching and run an optical digial out from the Samsung connect to my Anthem preamp, would that "emulate" a receiver from a C4 user experience?
  5. Thanks, but with the Frame TV, I have the Samsung connect box near my gear so in essence does what you are saying above unless I'm missing something.
  6. @ajd123What do you mean by running through the C4 application?
  7. Agree, I have an Anthem AVM50 preamp thats like new in my attic... I have been toying with just using the HDMI switching in my Frame TV and running all audio through it.
  8. I would probably put Denon in same camp as Yamaha and Pioneer…
  9. Good simple article of it below if you're bored https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/13095789-volume-control-technologies
  10. This is why added this to my desktop audio system for my PC... It's a headphone and USB DAC with a nice large volume control and connected to a pair of Genelec powered speakers. I prefer the dial to using the keyboard buttons to control volume.
  11. one thing not mentioned yet... If not mistaken, in general analog attenuation preserves sound quality better than digital... When reducing volume via a digital volume control, some sort of bit reduction takes place thus flattening the sound. The greater the volume reduction, the more the quality degrades. Maybe not as big of a deal with cheap in ceiling speakers but the more you spend, the more it may come into your thought process.
  12. So how are you doing it? Keypad volume control in each room?
  13. Thanks, I was thinking this would be the only replacement to analog as not having anything potentially creates a gap, to put keypads in every room with some dedicated media buttons...
  14. my home was wired 12 years ago so I have them... Occasionally they are used by folks who want to make a quick change in volume and not log into the app or go the touchscreen. I can splice the speaker cable and take them out of the loop but haven't done it yet. Mine also loop through my Russound which auto mutes the music when the intercom comes on.
  15. Those look nice... I have used Digital loggers with a lot of success as an alternative, seems like a similar concept.
  16. Hi all, Just curious, for new installs are folks installing an analog inwall volume control in rooms with distributed audio or are you direct wiring to speakers and just using digital volume control from keypads or apps? I see the benefit of inwall control being a quick turn down or muting but then it adds something in the signal path and another element into the wiring. Kudos to C4 on their OS3 audio interface (not so new i know).... combined with a C4 input switcher and any multiroom amp creates a great user experience. I havent felt the need to reach for Sonos or my Auralic streamers in secondary rooms yet, the C4 experience has been great.
  17. thanks @msgreenf; last WB700 took about 3-4 weeks all in to get the replacement so I had to get a replacement for the interim. When I get a replacement, I'll try to get the RMA process going through my old dealer, if I can't, I will reach out. Huge thanks for offer.
  18. Just had another Wattbox failure... Entire lower bank of outlets went dead. Second time a WB700 failed on me... This adds to the list of a WB200, WB400 and probably others. Shocked at the failure rate on these....
  19. I don't mind less expensive touch screens. Agree the C4 ones are astronomical. My comment is regarding Ubiquiti controller's issues with log4j (and previous security problems). Hopefully they do better.... Agree, they have had several very quick firmware updates after the log4j news so hopefully they closed any gaps...
  20. with their disruptive pricing, thats your only hope of long term survival
  21. There is a new Unifi app in Early Release called "Connect"... For now it appears you can create digital signage, videos etc into a playlist which appears targeted for the commercial setting, or run the tablet in dedicated Unifi Protect mode. I'm guessing they will add functionality to connect to the Unifi Controller, Unifi Access etc
