  1. Agree completely but not everyone is comfortable with above... I will say this, the new Unifi APs are nothing like the old AC-Pros and are all sub $200. I mentioned in another thread that I could not justify not using the built in AP in my Dream Machine in my second home. It was that good in a smaller home setting. But no doubt Ruckus is a clear step up and their Unleashed GUI is simple with amazing performance. It also marries up with a Unifi backbone network well but sometimes folks just want everything tidy single branded with one GUI. I understand just dont see many folks replacing Ruckus with Unifi but the OP has limited Ruckus APs (probably dated also) and might benefit from better coverage with cheaper Unifi APs.
  2. Agree with your comments on great value and their new APs are vastly improved but on above statement, i would say instead "you'll get sufficient service for a fraction of the cost"... Not sure I would say same.
  3. I’m not sure I would buy multiple LR versions as their strong antenna can conflict with each other
  4. When I changed APs from Unifi to Ruckus I'm pretty sure I had to readopt all of my wifi devices. Control4 is likely on ethernet or zigbee so shouldnt make a difference but some of your IP addresses if devices are wifi likely with change. If IP changes, C4 will need to be updated. Out of curiousity, which Ruckus AP do you have and how many?
  5. Thanks, was more worried about any C4 snafu's that can creep up that I'm not familiar with. Probably nothing to be concerned with you as you say. On Toslink, its a TV output but a side bar, I have always read that HDMI is the worst way to transmit high end digital audio due to high jitter (assuming bit rate / bit depth is not truncated). Thanks again.
  6. Curious for thoughts on this one... I have a FrameTV with a one connect box. I also have a Denon AVR that is used now for HDMI switching and TV/Music audio to a pair of KEF LS50's. I have some higher end separates not in use but not 4K HDMI rated. Is there any watch outs or concerns using the one connect box for all HDMI switching and then running a digital output from the one connect box to the AVR to handle all audio outputs for both Video and Music? Thanks!
  7. Hi, Is Somfy Tahoma now working with Control4? The base unit appears to be available now for sale in NA and I was told a driver is available. Thanks.
  8. There is a for sale section in this forum... maybe post there?
  9. agree, you will not be able to just set it and never have to call the dealer. It's the C4 business model.
  10. I was counting the minutes until that post Took longer than i thought!
  11. There is a Casetta C4 driver for the bridge and registered on your network during setup. I think you may need the Casetta bridge pro if not mistaken.
  12. I would put a cheap Unifi wifi access point off the shed switch and use the TP link Kasa products. They have worked great for me.
  13. updates or maintenance if something stops working....
  14. No rush. Just unifi actually releases new features often so not just your typical bug fix many times. But you are right, probably shouldnt rush them. Same with c4 updates
  15. I upgrade firmware routinely as I'm also adding new devices like phone, new cameras etc. I try though now to stay away from beta releases if I can because a home setup really is not the right environment. Plus when you are beta firmware, they are pushing updates very frequently which is another inconvenience. If the UDMP fails, I will plus a couple of critical devices into my ATT gateway (even use the ATT gateway wifi if needed) until a new device arrives overnight. I do have an edgerouter lite and a Mikrotik switch/router also that I can use in a pinch but have never needed.
  16. The only other alternative I would consider is Mikrotik which I have sampled and I like a lot... Problem is with their router, no cloud access to speak of, to do things like setting up a simple VPN tunnel between sites requires a PHD, and the feature set for prosumer items like cameras, phones are not there. It's a hard core router to set it and leave it but also amazing performance and quality for the dollar. With your networking experience, it's something to consider but I would not shy away at all from the UDMP. The occasional bugs you may encounter, you will be able to address with your experience.
  17. Just to give folks balance to what looks like a horror story of issues, I have not had anything like the experience above with my UDM-P in my home network aside from the initial restore from backup which was a convenience issue more than a stability issue. I'm not sure what defines small network or not but my home system has a UDMP, 11 Switches, a mix of 10G/2.5G/1G/100/10 devices, Unifi VOIP, WAN failover, VLAN/firewall configuration for video and IoT with past Unifi APs and now Ruckus. Sure there have been a few minor quirks but glad to say its been solid so far. The UDMP is actually one my favorite pieces of gear from them... a crazy value for what it offers.
  18. I love Tech Lighting. Generally viewed as premium brand.
  19. I run a primary AT&T ISP and a cheap Xfinity as a failover. Works well but if done over I would reverse it to avoid the double NAT with the ATT gateway router.
  20. I started with a USG gateway, then a USG Pro, then a UDM Pro and a UDM in another home. The issues you reference were mostly around the problems when UDM pro was released and people could not transfer their settings with a backup and restore. Folks that did a clean install didn’t have these issues . Bonafide gripe but I just finally did a clean install for reliability.
  21. I've had a Ubiquiti router for over 5 years and never had the need for a redundant backup. Just stay away from beta firmware if you want the best stability.
