ILoveC4
Well...we’ve got construction of our new home underway. To help minimize the feeling of spending a boatload of money all at once I’ve started buying everything in small chunks. Last week I bought all of our speakers, install brackets/rings and speaker wire for the whole home distributed audio as well as the versabox’s for behind the TV’s. I bought all my speakers from Snap A/V. I got the 6” 150’s for the kids rooms, 8” 350’s for my room and the living rooms/kitchen/deck. I also snagged a dual 8” in wall sub for each of the living rooms. About 2/3 of that showed up today, and the rest should be here tomorrow. Next I’m going to order the surveillance gear and all the rest of the low voltage wiring. Should be a fun project!
LollerAgent
I just went through the exact same thing. You're smart to buy things in chunks! Good luck!

Yeah man...this isn’t my first rodeo. I’d rather spend a few grand a month for 9 months than $27k in one hit. Net net doesn’t change but it feels better. TheaterExtreme
Please send pictures! Anything you didn't do that you wish you could have? I think I'm going to put Alexa's in the ceiling and connect to speakers in that room along with link to some 2 channels close by.... just for that room. TheaterExtreme
Not to be funny, lol....... but I'm pretty sure that WAP's are good reasons.
ILoveC4
One thing I did that I’m really happy about is I ran all the wiring for my WAP’s in to closets. Places where they’re serviceable and provide the coverage I need, but they won’t be seen. The electrician would have just wired them in to the middle of the room. I ran 2 CAT6, 2 CAT5e and an RG6 to each TV location. The CAT5e is great for RS232 or IR (still no IR in my project though).

Crustyloafer
We always run a single CAT6 to one of cutouts for every room with ceiling speakers being fitted for WAP. Then we can just hide the WAP in the ceiling void next to the speaker so not visible at all. Easy for servicing too as just need to take speaker out to access. msgreenf

I have the internet guy coming today, and am also bringing the rack over today. Hopefully I have adequate WiFi coverage...I put 3 of the top end Pakedge WAP’s in to cover 6,000 square feet (3,000 on the main floor and 3,000 in the basement). You need decent line of sight with no (or little) obstructions for 5ghz.

I find a single sheet of plasterboard does not have a massive impact on the 5GHz performance and there also has to be a balance between outright performance and aesthetics/visibility for the clients I work for. But that single sheet sideways could be numerous feet long.... But I don't truly disagree, aesthetics counts, may just mean paying for more devices. Besides, same trick applies, and you can always choose to pop the line out a few feet away and ceiling mount it.

Exactly, with the cable up in the ceiling void, we can easily bring it out a short distance from the speaker and surface mount if required.
