DC Ceiling Fan Integration

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for new fans ... most fans I am interested in these days are DC fans with their own proprietary wireless remotes.  Is there any integration option or integration friendly DC fans out there (besides Haiku big*ss fans which are crazy expensive).

Thanks!

So - I'm building right now, and didn't consider all of the nuances around fans. I've got a number of fans, and all of them have AC motors, except for 1. It has a DC motor. I have all the specs on motor size, RPM, Watts, AMPS, etc...

I was just planning on using fan speed controllers for all of these. Are you saying that for this DC motor, the Fan Speed Controller won't work? This is a fan from Minka Group.

Most fans are RF 433MHz based which can be automated using Matterlink multiX,  check https://www.matterlink.sg/ this is what i did!

How did you figure out whether or not your fan would work with that?

Here's a link to the specs on the fan in question: https://www.minkagroup.net/images/product_specs/F896-84-BNW.pdf

I didn’t! My fan was not listed but it has a similar control to one of the supported models, I toke the risk and bought MultiX, programmed it with my Fan and worked without issues since then!

What fan do you have? What remote does it use?

@alanchow has  a driver for bigass fans if they have something you want.

We also have a bond driver coming.  Driver is pretty much complete but waiting for some firmware upgrades from Bond.  They estimated 2-4 weeks for completion from their side.

https://bondhome.io/

Bond provides IR/RF integration of devices like Fans (with lights), Fireplaces, Blinds (including Somfy blinds!).

I’ll check them out, thanks Alan.

The fan has already been purchased and will be installed soon, so I’m pretty much set on this one. I’ll put it on a C4 switch for now, and figure out fan speed later.

Below is the email I got from tech at Fanimation. What does the +/- 150K mean?

Hello,

Here is the information I have regarding frequency on the remote:

120V DC remote control
Transmitter:
303.875Mhz (+/- 150K)
Receiver:
303.875Mhz (+/- 150K)

Case #:591466

As you can see they have almost identical controls, I believe the names on the remotes belongs to the Fan/Lamp manufacturers not the device that control it, all have the same and or was easy to program the MultiX to capture the codes for both fans!
