Topfox
Is there anyway to programmatically launch a video file? Example: If I have a short video file of a logo, and I have Nvidia shield players, is there a way I can launch a routine from C4 that would start a TV and then auto play the video instead of say launching something like VLC player and then browsing to the locally stored file and launching manually. RAV
Just the one file? Get a cheap flash media player on amazon, plug into TV HDMI port directly. Leave it playing as a loop, switch TV input as needed.
zaphod
Probably easier to do with something like a PC or Rpi where you could trigger an event on the source from C4.
Cyknight
In more general terms, to launch a video file directly, you'd need an integrated 'device' that allows this. In other words, you're looking for a media player with direct file selection launch ability, and unfortunately they are becoming rare. KODI is a software based option, Plex is gone, Zappiti is (still i think) gone, there kaleidascape but heck thats an expensive way of doing it.... DuneHD should still work if you can find one... EDIT, looks like zappiti is back, yay.
SpencerT
I wonder if you could do this with splash tiles? @videostorm

Ilushka85
I do this thru DUNE... whenever i start playing a movie on KScape in my theater... i have a driver i buitl that gets the latest trailers from apple trailers and plays 2 or 3 trailers.. and then play some theater intro videos and then resumes my kscape movie. videostorm
15 hours ago, SpencerT said: I wonder if you could do this with splash tiles? @videostorm Yeah, SplashTiles can do this on any Android device (ie, your Shield). In SplashTiles, create a Screen with a full screen video player (plays file from Google Drive specified folder, cached locally on the Shield). Then just trigger display that Screen from our C4 driver. If the Shield is off, it will auto wake it up and if CEC is enabled that turns on the TV as well. You can also add a ton of customization as well (data overlays like sports scores, weather, news, etc) if you want.
videostorm
If you do want to use a hardware device, our Lumi TV digital signage player is probably the perfect fit (lumi-tv.com). It's a 100% uptime device that is fully controllable (IP) from C4. Rapid installation and setup. Direct file playback is a snap. Only sold via dealers (with great intro specials)

zaphod
With a PC you should be able to do this with either EventGhost, or MCE Controller, which was written by former C4 exec Charles Kindel. crazybuppie
