RussellB reacted to snowcatxx87 in Alexa control of C4
Big facts. Sometimes it's instant. Sometimes huge delay, "that device isn't responding", and boom - the light then turns on. Haha

My response times are still very slow on the native C4 Alexa integration. I suspect it depends in part where you live. Would really love to see this fixed as a “…not responding” message following a long wait and followed by the action actually being taken is frustrating!

RussellB got a reaction from msgreenf in Custom Buttons and Scenario Experience - pros/cons?
I'm addicted now! Now I'm looking for good graphics of a "Projector", "Curtain", and "Theater Cups with Lights". I use GIMP to darken and lighten the images for default vs. selected.

I've forked a branch of the python code here:
https://github.com/EnsignRutherford/C4driverbuilder
This version has added error handling, proper character conversion, and saves the final driver as "uibutton_<image name>.c4z", e.g. uibutton_christmas.c4z.
I also added a Windows batch file to call, 'build.bat.'
Still doing some tweaking, like the batch file can process all images in a folder and create drivers for all of them. I have some free time.

RussellB got a reaction from msgreenf in Using Echo Dots as sound sources
Swapping out previous cables for shielded cables fixed the issue!
Does anyone want a write-up on this? My approach doesn't require any voice programming at all. For example, by naming the Echo Dot 'Kitchen' via the Alexa App, I can tell Alexa 'Alexa, play Ed Sheeran on Kitchen' So Ed Sheeran starts playing on the Kitchen Echo Dot attached to the Audio Matrix port which then triggers the programming to select the Echo Dot in the Kitchen as the source.

I wrote a driver for the Lennox iComfort that communicates to the cloud API to control the thermostat so it can be done.

RussellB got a reaction from msgreenf in OS3 incompatible hardware
Somewhat off-topic, I'm about to install an HPC10A heavy duty power controller to replace the timer on the front landscape lights. We lose power occasionally and I hate them not syncing up. At least with Control4 I can sink the porch and garage lights now with the ladscape lights so it's looks better.

I feel like the advent of FireTV, Roku, AppleTV, and "smart" TVs has made people more used to OSD. I for one like that as sometimes people get confused with easy remote buttons (My mother...sigh). Sometimes it's easier to just have it in front of them on the screen resembling something familiar.

I agree. It makes it more foolproof. I use an Amazonf Fire TV with a VideoStorm IRUSB to control it with no lag. I wrote additional mini drivers for it so anyone can bring up the OSD, select watch and click the Netflix button to go right to it. Visually it is very cool. My Watxh menu has 30 icons which include 25 channels then the rest of the viewing equipment

I also have an old iPad 2 using the Control4 app in Kiosk mode AND an SR-250 which most people use in that room.
I also have an Alexa in the room and I've programmed things like "Alexa, turn on Theater Netflix".

The OSD comes up in the main theater... and I really like it!

RussellB got a reaction from videostorm in C4 driver for nVidia Shield
Hi,
Tested 1.7 with a mini-driver for Pluto TV with the APP_ID set to QLAUNCH android-app://tv.pluto.android#Intent;component=tv.pluto.android/.leanback.controller.LeanbackSplashOnboardActivity;end
Works perfectly!
I've got mini-drivers to update!
So far so good.... Cooking Channel, Food Channel, Pluto TV all work great. I can't get Crackle to work. I have it working from a custom button but not from a mini-driver. Command:
QLAUNCH android-app://com.gotv.crackle.handset#Intent;component=com.gotv.crackle.handset/com.crackle.alwayson.app.HomeActivity;end

RussellB got a reaction from elee532 in C4 driver for nVidia Shield
Hi all,
Which is the best configuration of drivers to get this capability:
I want to be able to add my own custom channels to be displayed in the 'Watch' menu and have them change when I pick them.
I have the irUSB setup properly with the 1.6 driver. For some custom channels, like 'Cooking Channel' I can get it to execute when the proper command is tied to a remote buttonon the SR-250 but I can't get it to change from when the viewer selects it from the watch menu.
Thanks in advance,
RussellB
