Open source is valuable where it is. Not all open source is secure, but that's why OSRBs exist and open source needs continually audited for vulns.
Control4 would not exist without opensource services and utlities, but the magic happens in non-open source code.

The reasoning is not because it will make the dealers mad. It's literally because the dealer model is considered a better solution than DIY.
It's 1000 times easier supporting individuals that are paid to install the solution than the random DIY hobbyist.
HE usage is extremely low. It's not something used by more than a handful of customers.

Yep. I recall the community being about 200-300 vs the Control4 customer base being 400k+, so .05% of users are in there.

    I guess 3.2.4 and the multi display driver doesn't address 2 audio + 1 tv?  I haven't used it yet but: https://www.control4.com/help/c4/software/cpro/dealer-composer-help/content/composerpro_userguide/using_the_multidisplay_manager_agent.htm
Then you can probably do a timer - say press the * button the remote and that does a timer to turn off your TV screen but not "room off" so the white noise keeps playing.  I have a 90 minute timer in the bedroom tied to * button on the SR250.  Grant it when the 90 minutes are up it does "room off" but it could just as easily do "tv off".

Interestingly, that wasn't the case at all. The Control4 audio system was healthy and improving at the same time the Sonos integration was maintained the best it could.
That same period was 2.10.x where the mass amount of native services were introduced and 2.10.x saw improvements on the advanced audio with the introduction of the Triad One.

Same thing happens to a lot of people with NAS units or servers. Lots of us build our own NAS's or to save money. Eventually though, something goes wrong and many of us end up simply buying a commercial NAS anyway. On Synology, when there is an issue (I've even seen a case where the RAID had totally crashed), they fixed it. Even professionals like Linus from Linus Tech Tips have fallen into this trap. I have, and other mates have too (my mate was using BTRFS, and then a critical flaw was discovered in it, which ended up affecting him)
The success of many open source projects these days often relies upon commercial backing / sponsorship and is only as good as the developers working on it. The availability of source code, doesn't guarantee that anyone will work on it (DevFS). The guarantee by community members that they will work on something, doesn't guarantee that the patches they produce will be suitable for inclusion (Reiser4). I also had 2 projects fail for the same reason (and plenty more I assisted with).  The majority of Linux Kernel patches these days, is actually by large companies. Control4 has a lot of good developers, and huge development partner network too, so it's reasonable to assume they won't fail anytime soon

Look at Log4J. A perfectly good open source project...

A lot of products these days are effectively hybrid solutions which are both cloud and local, even new ones.
Developing solutions which rely the cloud is greater risk imho (especially lighting or anything to do with safety). It's easier to maintain in some ways, but in others (like the requirement to maintain compatibility with every ancient API), more difficult
Particularly with the growing use of country wide firewalls too which could cause issues, I don't foresee local control getting completely removed. Products will probably only integrate them more (like c4 with Alexa).

It's just giving a name to the audio streaming architecture. No technical changes.

The latest MacOS only supports computers from 5 years ago.. Ios doesn't support devices for huge periods either
Also it feels like you're on a bit of a witch hunt to be honest.
In another thread, you said you're using 100% mesh via Netgear orbi on high end ha jobs. Wifi 6 Orbis broke meshing with the previous generation. So why is it not ok for control4 to support a product for 8 years, but it's ok for orbi to break compatibility in only 4

The technology world's moving faster in 2022 than it did in 2012.

Would you use a router from five years ago?

A router is a gateway into your network, as a processor is a gateway into your home control system.
I think the two are a fair comparisson. This gets in, that doesn't, this needs to talk to that, you want this, Ok I know that's over there.

    OS3 had major zigbee updates.
OS3 had security enhancements to IR and serial.
    OS3 had audio changes.
OS3 has a newer, more secure linux kernel.
    New controllers support IPv6.
    HC250 barely supports TLS1.2
HC250 had flash nav and audio code was tied into navigator code.
The HC250 code-base had a lot of dependencies.
The experience with the half functional HC200/300/500 was bad enough to not consider major limitations on a fully featured controller.
The time to update all of the above was longer than the time it took to remove the driver from the OS.

Also, the HC250 cannot support the current OS without very heavy lifting. Even IR/RS232.

Clarification: They needed to be EOS. The messaging around disallowing them and not supporting them could have been clearer, but they needed to be left behind for a list of reasons.

You can actually. The OvrC web UI on the controller allows deleting scanned devices from OvrC, just like the pro hub.

I use an RK-1, but I purchased a Purple Firewalla for that functionality since the RK-1 never had everything I wanted.

OvrC is a cloud service and configured via the cloud. No local configuration.

You'll have to wait for your dealer.
