  1. Yup, by rather than having one system go down and it takes some of the more vital services with it. I'm all for efficient computing and a RAID box for multiple purposes (disk array, Plex - all very common) is fine but not for services such as site-to-site connections. If you need to swap out a failing disk from the RAID array and it is not a hot-swappable system, you are looking at both downtime and then a significant overhead afterwards when rebuilding/resilvering the array that it would affect everything else on that system. Partially true, but the router hardware is more suited for the throughput and packet management than your low-end RAID server. Especially when they will contain certain cryptographic elements in hardware that make the encryption/decryption a doddle rather than using up CPU cycles.
  2. Or go virtual machines. Many use a local 'admin station' that has access to all vlans (for e.g.) which means you can VNC/RDP into that station to carry out config changes. Making this hardware is also fine (even if a laptop) but most prefer to use equipment with out-of-band access in case of hardware crashes.
  3. You don't need to, but it's always preferable to separate out the services especially when you consider the low price point and benefits of the kit even coming with dedicated hardware crypto.
  4. Via https://customer.control4.com/account/system or (if you're feeling trustworthy) there are links scattered throughout the 'net.
  5. You can start by downloading Composer HE and connect it to your C4 network. It's not the most intuitive app if you have never seen it before so you may want to tread carefully at first and do some reading up (or watch a little YT if nothing else).
  6. Certainly one of the progressions in recent years which has come leaps and bounds is small form factor PC's. They pack quite a lot of grunt which (with a very rich feature set) should allow for both the ease and scale to set up VPNs and in more ways than have been available ever before (OpenVPN/Tailscale/WireGuard). If you are keen to keep your networks how they are without a complete revamp, you can set up a small VPN endpoint on each network and use them to route between the two locations. All that would be required is to create a single static route on each firewall/router that points to the other network. Any local traffic will hit your internal gateway but then be told to go via the local VPN endpoint and tunnel the traffic to the other side. Each VPN endpoint could have a single LAN port in this case. Say $300 for two NUCs is quite reasonable.
  7. It sounds like it may be a simple case of the AirPlay driver not being installed.
  8. You have not said what testing you have done to singularly identify the C4 devices as being at fault here or what has been ruled out. There are far too many variables still at play and happenstance when one device does not connect to C4 is not the same thing as saying that the C4 itself is the root cause. For example, have you checked your router/modem logs for retransmissions or reconnections? When you notice the EA5 dropping, can you still ping the device to confirm simple network connectivity. At a very basic level, when the incident occurs go into the System Diagnostics screen within Composer, select the Controller Networking tab and click "Test Internet Connection"..what happens? Without much more detail, we are all just shooting in the dark here.
  9. It may not necessarily be the C4 hardware with perhaps a root cause elsewhere in your network. For example, you may want to check your own internet connection if in case it is flip flopping or if your DNS provider (if not using the ISP) is experiencing problems. You will need to follow the chain to eliminate the possibilities.
  10. Yes it is possible to have the networks separated across vlans, but it requires some knowledge of the problem. SSDP (or C4's SDDP in this case) cannot traverse subnets so you require a method to pass/relay that information back and forth between them. That is why the majority of installers choose to have a single (flat) subnet for all your AV devices so they do not come across this issue. I've come across mostly enterprise (or enterprise-based) hardware that has the capability to pass on the traffic to the multicast address for ssdp and on its port (239.255.255.250 on UDP 1900). I have not checked but if your cisco device has Cisco PIM then you may have overcome one crucial step. However, that is not the end of the problem because if you have configured the switches for L3 routing, they would also need to know what to do with the multicast packets so either they would need to have a PIM package or you would need to route those packets up to the Cisco unit so that it can forward them on using PIM It's the same situation with other non-routable protocols like mDNS (for Chromecast): you'd either need to configure the static routings or have a relay agent that manages it for you. It really is up to you if you want to redesign your whole network just to allow for this vlan segregation - it is no small task and which is why it is only viable if the fundamental hardware is capable of doing so in the first place. If after creating a single subnet for your devices it still does not work, my advice would be to look if you have any firewalls in the way and use packetsniffing to trace the problem.
  11. I'm in the same boat, creating a dashboard has allowed me to be able to view all of the many 'stats in play here (3 per room: air, underfloor and FCU intake) in a single view whilst giving the family an ability to oversee their own environment compartmentalised to their respective room. The need to condense all of this information in a way to allow them to use it was key in our residence. Nonetheless, quite interesting indeed to hear these differing views.
  12. I suspect our lines are crossed. Having just tested this on two rooms by removing the device from one and applying it to another, that subsequent room lost its own configuration for Comfort and became an exact copy of the first. I simply want to strip that device from all the navigators that it was added to in error without affecting any existing arrangement for those rooms. Unless i am doing something wrong....?
  13. I'm afraid that is not the case, no. There is a warning in red that says "overwrite existing settings" which is undesirable in my case.
  14. Thank both. So in the round, adding a device to the Navigators globally can be done in a few clicks but removing it so that it lives in the right place requires its removal from all the navigators individually. Wow. Seems like there is a long list of items affecting the UX within Composer which has been long overlooked.
  15. Yes, this one device appears in each room’s Navigator. I can make the change to one room then “Apply” it to the others but I suspect that overwrites the existing room settings.
  16. Hi My dealer appears to have added a thermostat to every room in the project. There are over 50 rooms. Each of the rooms have their own particular devices and layout in their navigator. Is there a way to bulk remove a device from a room by unticking (say) the box to that room? I presume if there is a way they added it in bulk, there may well be a way to remove it too rather than going through each room in turn? Cheers Pops
  17. Updating in case anyone else comes across the same problem. The bindings were missing so dragging it to the specific amplifier channels made it appear under the Stations on the endpoints.
  18. Any experts available to lend a hand & suggest how to troubleshoot? Cheers!
  19. That appears to be missing. Going to the Navigator tab for the test room (which has Internet Radio within its tree), there is no reference to Internet Radio either in the the Experience Menus or Submenus. I had assumed i would also then see an option for it here too but it is missing under either of the Listen or Stations submenu.
  20. Hello. Yes, added to the one room for testing (which made the Internet Radio entry appear in the Media tab within Composer). No resultant entry at the endpoints however.
  21. Resurrecting an old thread (but for good reason i hope) as there appears to be little elsewhere on this specifically. Perhaps because it does appear to be straightforward and should 'just work'... When adding Internet Radio to the project, configuring for the streams and refreshing all navigators, i cannot find any of these entries under Stations (whether it's under Sources, Genres etc..). "Internet Radio" is added to the System Design tab and configured under Media with two streams. Despite this, there is no update on any of the endpoints. Has this since been superseded, is there another driver or there should be another way to do it under OS 3.3? The official documentation on this appears to be quite dated. Cheers Pops
  22. Ram, i'm keen to know how you got on with this and whether the integration went well for you. Am in the same boat and may ask our dealers to provide some test hardware but any first hand experience you have is invaluable. Cheers Pops
  23. @ERDrPC, curious to know whether you got this to work with the more recent DS-K1Txxx terminals? Cheers Pops
  24. @alanchow, hi Is this a function that can/will be explored and integrated with the drivers? Even if there is access to the IP camera streams for CCTV purposes only, that may be useful for some. We are finding more uses in our developments for facial rec terminals. Thanks Pops
