Kwikset SmartCode 914 Zigbee?

Recommended Posts

If someone purchased one of these from Amazon would it work on Control4? The zigbee model? Was sent to a job where the customer had done that and couldn’t get those two locks to join the zigbee network. Tech support obviously unwilling/unable to help (they helped more than I anticipated they would) and I tested a zigbee extended and it learned in just fine. One of the tech reps said no chance it would work as the radios were different and the other said it should work that C4 just resells them. I’d like to know what’s true so I don’t waste my time in the future.

914 is the model of the lock, not the model of the Zigbee module in the lock.

You can have a 914 with a generic Zigbee module, or a 914 with a Control4-specific Zigbee module.

They are not interchangeable.

Who made the half functional Z-Wave driver?

The Z-Wave driver is fully functional and reports the state of the lock fine.

The dongle is pricey, the range is crap and the performance isn't there. If you had the same lock in C4 Zigbee or the same long in Z-wave with the Dongle the C4 Zigbee one will work much much better.

I hate when people try to back door the door locks to try and save $50/lock. Just buy a proper zigbee one from your dealer and be done with it. Only use Z-wave if you inherited locks from an old alarm system and they are already in place. Buying them yourself on ebay or where ever is just not worth the hassle for the little to no money you will save at the end of the day.

Already had the locks.

Did not report lock state fine. It reported the first time it connected after a power cycle but that was it.

Swapped in a C4 module and it all works now.

Hello everyone,

I purchased a lock with a yellow zigbee chip that is c4 compatible, it currently works in my system and been using it for 5 months now. I bought two new locks and these came with the red zigbee chip.

I've read the red chips are the "OEM" c4 chips, but what is the yellow one? a previous version maybe? What is the difference?

Thanks,
