Great to see they are finally releasing an outdoor speaker as well. Been asking for this from them for years.

That's a standard outdoor speaker - for connecting to an amplifier - not a 'Sonos built in' speaker.

Honestly, I don't know why theu bother selling 'standard' speakers at all, but sure why not

The Sonos hate cracks me up...  Its by far still the best product like it on the market, There are competitors but their fit and finish are far superior to the majority and their App is still considerably better.  I have and or have installed Sonos, Heos, and Autonomic Mirage. The sonos kills them all.

Yep I agree with all that.

Sonos are survivors in an ever changing market.

And this proves a company *can* please the DIY community *and* give something back to the customer installer market as well. Over here it sells in big electronics chains, specialist shops, HA dealers, old bricks and mortar department stores, online. They don’t care! - they just want to keep it the dominant music steamer and get it out there for mass adoption....!

And they have adapted the line up and software extremely well to keep it fresh and relevant.....

The spotty connect abilities and the recent inbuilt Alexa “One” is proof of that...

I hadn’t bought a single Sonos device in years but only recently changed that - upgrading from a play to a Sonos Alexa controlled One....

What’s more there is still a great Sonos market second had - people still want older gear to add to their homes, so second had prices hold up on likes of eBay.

*And* the original boxes are still supported in a mutiroom setup like a decade on...

The only downer is the hires situation but I’ve learnt to live with that. I wish there was a premium Sonos streamer I could use in my primary listening area but other than that It’s easy to set up....

I just love the Spotify/Sonos/Alexa combo....

So Sonos is back now as the dominant platform I use to mutiroom music.

I can upgrade the firmware myself via an app....

Wait....

(.....Am I dreaming about how a Control4 platform really should be?....)

W.

Have you looked at sonos financials before you say they are surviving?

Nope.

But there is such mass adaption now, and being DIY- if they die as a company they still won’t die as a useful device in my home.... :)

If sonos dies the devices don't work...got nothing to do with DIY or not...

In fact, if c4 goes out of my business my system still works.  If Sonos does your system stops working

Ok so the hyothetical scenario is they both go out business....

Sonos is DIY. Control4 is dealer only.

There is a huge supported 2nd hand market for Sonos and there is zilch for Control4

The user can continue to maintain and add to their Sonos platform DIY, but their Control4 platform needs a dealer....

From the end user point of view, which product is then better?

no, if Sonos servers are off Sonos doesn't work.  DIY doesn't matter

If any one of our devices break, especially a controller then we would be SOL just like if Sonos turned off their service.

Control4 closes your stuff works for a relatively short period before it fails. So the loss isn't immediate, but its fairly rapid. Also without development or improvement how long are you going to keep a system which no longer is supported at all or in any way?

There is also a perceived loss... If I lose my Sonos I'm out maybe $1500 at the very high end.  If I lost Control4?

Control4 from this standpoint is the bigger risk, not Sonos.  Either way they both look stable at this point, thankfully because I love them both!

Not sure I agree. I have had control4 lighting in my house for over 7 years and have had zero dimmers die

And I've had one die at my house... Agreed those are the last to fail though, I've had 2 hc800's fail on me though.

Actually in a weird kind of way - C4 goes out of business? pro opens up for all - the platform opens up, knowledge is spread more around the user community - the whole user experience might open up a bit? Anyway. Rock on C4!

Pro opens up if Control4 gets cornered by the big ones so bad that they deem opening up as the last measure to regain a foothold and keep growth up. If I look at what the big ones can do already it is just a question of when and not "if" they start with AV multiroom control - and then I fear Control4 will have to put up a real fight which will be hard to win - the big guys could just use an AI machine to gather IR codes and write a driver, and boom one Control4 advantage n-1

Bummer - we live in one heck of a dystopian Orwellian world now and most of us don’t even realize it!

What next?

Not only upload our music and homes but our brains from our stacks aka Altered Carbon? !!

Rock on Control4
