Three-way switch to power half-hot outlet, Keypad isn't working, Diagram enclosed

Recommended Posts

c4 Gurus -

Need some assistance getting a c4 switch and keypad working in a 3-way scenario to power a half-hot outlet. I think for the purpose of this discussion (unless I am wrong) we can ignore the outlet is half-hot.

The diagram below shows how I installed the switch and keypad. The switch is working fine - it is controllable from c4 and the outlet works as expected. The problem is with the keypad. It doesn't seem to power up and it doesn't control the outlet as expected.

I'm sure I have something wrong in the wiring. What's wrong? Could you offer me pointers please?

Second question - is there any specific composer pro programming required for the keypad?

THANKS in advance.

No programming is needed and the C4-KA will not show in the project.  Hard to say exactly what you did wrong but the C4-KA  should not be connected to a load wire.  Wall box 1 (C4 switch) needs to be downgraded to a 2 way circuit with the light only.  You will end up with a dead wire across Wall box 1 and Wall box 2 that was formerly used as the travellor.  You connect the C4 switch and aux keypad (yellow) dolphin wires together using that wire.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Is this updated diagram what you are saying?

Does that imply the red off the c4 switch just gets capped and unused?

couple issues here. You are missing a wire on the switch. There should be a yellow lead. that gets connected to the yellow lead on the KA. The red is the switch leg and that would get connected to the hot on the half outlet. The other half of the outlet would share the non switched hot. So if there is only 3 wires going to the outlet you will only be able to make it full switching and not half.

Interesting. Maybe this is an older ver of the switch? Here's the diagram from the install instructions. Thoughts?

that diagram isn't for the aux keypad.

follow the correct diagram

The moral of the story here is connect gen1 switches to gen1 aux keypads! Thanks all for the insights.
There are no gen 1 aux keypads. There are 2, 3 and 6 buttons
