Any reason NOT to upgrade to EA?

Hii All,

Have an HC800 which seems to be crashing so upgrading to an EA-5. From your experience, any reason not to upgrade to an EA and stick with an 800?

Thanks in advance

I would look at why your HC800 is crashing.  Migrating to a newer controller won't solve the problem if your project has problems.

We had a series of power outages back to back and after one of them it does not reconnect the system. My dealer spent hours copying most recent backup, resetting 800 and reinstalling. Worked fine for a day but next day with a random power outage, same problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. And no we don't have power issues regularly.

Thanks for your help.

I would first look into getting a UPS for controller.I live in power failure country and wouldn't plug mine in without.

Unfortunately I Have a ups but with all the other equipment it wasn't plugged in. It is now. I do think it's fried as well though with reinstall from scratch worked. Just with power outage went again.

Do you all think EA-5 will be upgraded? Since system crashing I'm stuck in that I can't wait 6 months.

i have zero insider knowledge.  But if you look at the release cycles from the previous controller to the HC800/HC250 and then from those to the new EA controllers, it would not be shocking to see some new hardware.  If there is something new that either knocks the price down of used EA1/3/5 or gives you the chance to get the latest and greatest.  Usually when they announce hardware its ready to ship and CEDIA is in Sept.  But who knows, all just speculation.

keep in mind though  the EA series got a refresh last year i think with the introduction of POE EA1 and v2 versions of all of the rest. so likely they will be here for a 2-4 years.

who knows, differences are so slight between v1 and v2; I'd think an EA6 would be a major step up and maybe it is a year off - who knows.  If you can wait ~5 weeks I'd wait that is all I suggested.  No crystal ball here.

Because Control4 didn't design it that way. I couldn't give you an official reason why.

My thoughts are that a 1080p stream is at least twice the data of a 720p stream. The camera is also inlaid (not really full screen) in the UI and also encoded in the controller for mobile viewing. Considering you're not going to get the full 1080p resolution anyways (because it's inlaid), processing the extra data takes away processing from the rest of the system (and also the extra overhead for mobile viewing).

I assume that because Snap AV need to sell product and nothing new as come out for a few years

The 0S3 is a stepping stone to new hardware and part of that would be updating Controllers so customer

Can see 1080p Camera streams on there TV.

Like to see the new Neeo Remote, wonder if that as voice control ?
