antneed
I have 3 Araknis wireless access points inside my house. They work great for inside my home. But outside my WiFi is almost nonexistent. In reality the WiFi around the perimeter is awful and almost nothing. Now I have a brand new Florida home, block construction, insulation and hurricane proof windows. Is this normal not to have WiFi right outside my home? It’s sad I can pick up my neighbors WiFi across the street but not mine. Suggestions? Installer says the WAPs are maxed out in terms of power etc.
chopedogg88
Wifi doesn't penetrate concrete very well. I recommend you install an outdoor AP if you want good wifi outdoor. Makes sense right? sonic30101 and Neo1738
Neo1738
My Araknis outdoor AP has amazing range, def recommend.
antneed
Wow nice! Any word on range distance?
zaphod
I have a Ubiquiti outdoor AP and the range is easily 80 ft, at least for 2.4GHz. I have a Wifi LED light controller that is about 80ft away from my WAP and it sustains the connection to turn on the lights every night. Outdoor there is nothing to block the signal. Of course, that means any close neighbours can also pick up your signal so make sure that you are using good passwords.
ekohn00
Consider where you need the wifi....if it's all around the outside of the house, realize the same concrete that block the inside wifi going out will definitely block a WAP on one side of the house reaching the others. If you need 360....maybe consider moving one of the inside WAPs into the attic.... at least to test if you get full coverage. Who know...maybe it'll cover the inside of the house too. though I wouldn't get excited yet....
antneed
I need WiFi on the left side of the house for my Flo by Moen water shut off valve but the WAP pre-wire would be in the back outside patio, so technically it would need to reach around the concrete block corner at a 180 degrees and then approximately 7 feet forward from there. Not sure if it will have that kind of range?

Not sure if it will have that kind of range? experiment. if you're only concerned with an IoT device, great speeds may not matter and you might get lucky across that 7". Chances are the moen uses 2.4 which will help. Start with a WAP where you can. Have you tried moving one inside the house near the Moen? antneed
No I have not because they are mounted in the ceiling. I was thinking this to start: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-MU-MIMO-Gigabit-EAP225-Outdoor/dp/B07953S2FD/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=outside+wireless+access+point&qid=1615922334&sprefix=outside+wireless+ac&sr=8-
mindedc1
I would go with ubiquiti..tplink is pretty terrible. WiFi is basically line of sight + ricochet... you can account for a cinder block wall creating a 50% attenuation on wifi signal so plan accordingly... antneed
You mean something like this: Ubiquiti Networks Unifi AC Mesh 1167Mbit/s Power over Ethernet (PoE) White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAAWOGO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1WMXT7V2XC4GFW69KJD7
zaphod
That is what I have. This nice thing is that since it is POE you can drill a small hole to fit the Cat5/6 cable through and then put on an RJ45 jack. No other wires necessary.

anon2828
I have the same issue and same basic structure. We have the Araknis outdoor 700 series AP. We did not want to have it show, so it is hidden in the ceiling of the lanai accessible through a speaker hole. The range this way is terrible and we may have to just live with it on the ceiling or wall. The 700 outdoor is very directional which is also a bit of a pain. Any suggestions welcome... antneed
Thanks for your comment. My concern is I need better WiFi around a outdoor wall corner. If I get the outdoor WAP mine too would be in the lanai in the rear of my home.

antneed
I have Miami Dade Hurricane code storm resistance impact glass.
anon2828
Low E here as well, and yes it does cut the signal tremendously.
