Help Needed - Apple MacBook M3 Pro Max With Parallels - Running Windows 11 & Composer 3.4.0 - Issues

Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded from a 2019 i9 MacBook to the latest M3 Series MacBook Pro. I've been using Parallels to run Windows 11 and Composer Pro 3.4. While most functionalities are smooth, I'm encountering a peculiar issue.

When attempting to access the properties page under system design for any Core Series Processor, Triad Matrix, Control4 Chime Doorbell, or devices using the OVRC-style webpage, the page appears completely black. Interestingly, this issue wasn't present on my older i9 MacBook, where everything displayed correctly.

Has anyone else faced a similar problem or found a solution? I had hoped that by skipping the M1 and M2 series, such issues would be resolved, but it seems I've hit a snag. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Note* EA series processors show up no problem.

Issue solved**

I called parallels directly and they were able to get it working. There is a compatibility feature in windows that allows you to run an application as ARM 64. They have the solution posted in a KB article here: https://kb.parallels.com/128796

hope this helps anyone else experiencing these issues. BTW, I just bought the M3 Pro Max 16” MacBook Pro (top of the line model) for $3999 and it’s super fast, everything loads so quickly, it boots instantly, runs parallels and Composer so quick. I’d highly suggest the upgrade for anyone that needs an extra write off at the end of the year.

hopefully this year we get a Mac version of Composer ???

I actually am in the process of selling my Mac. They're heavily hyped

I wouldn't expect a Mac version of composer tbh.

I just got the M3  in black, and I thought that was super fast, can't imagine the how much faster the pro max could get.

The black is such a cool color for the macbook!

Hell No, the M series laptops are the best laptops I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned an MBP m1 and m2. It’s the best battery life of any laptop. From a developer perspective they blow away a windows laptop.

I run compose on parallels with my m2 without issue.

Yeah...the MBPs with the M series chips are crazy fast. I have a new Black M3 MBP that I haven't even setup yet because my M1 Pro MBP is so fast I don't know that I really need it. Parallels runs great on it and so does composer. No need to have a Mac version of composer.

Probably unrelated, but this seems the right audience:  Under Parallels (using M3 Max), Composer installs and seems to launch fine, but it won't let me sign-in using the exact credentials I use on (real) Windows machine.  I can sign in to my.control4.com inside emulation machine with no problems.   I'm never sure what to put in the "PC Name" field.  Maybe that's a problem?   I'm using Composer Pro (32 bit).  Is there a 64-bit?   Am I only allowed to be signed in to one instance of Composer at a time?

I'm currently using Remote Desktop to run Composer on a slow puck computer, so was hoping for a snappier experience with new Black MBP (which is awesome, if a bit pricey)...

I’ve seen that issue before as well. Most common solution I’ve found is that windows always seems to have the wrong time. So I go in and make sure that the clock is synced and it’s on the correct time zone. If it won’t sync I manually type in the correct time and it resumes working. If that doesn’t work, then check on your parallels settings on Mac Side and check the network settings. Make sure that it’s using the default adapter. That’ll put it on the same network as the Mac.

You may only be able to sign in to one instance if composer at a time depending on how many licenses are assigned to your account. If you’re the main control4 guy for your business you can login to my.control4.com and increase the amount of licenses available to you up to a maximum of 5. If you’re not the admin on the c4 dealer account then ask your boss to give you additional composer licenses. And 3rd if you are the admin and your 5 licenses are maxed out already then create a new user like support@yourcompany.com then issue an additional 5 licenses to that user. Then sign in with that account in composer.

hope that helps.

I think this is very unlikely, but I would hope that in the future Composer and Composer HE become web applications so they are OS agnostic.  Not what you asked for but it should allow you to fully run Composer on a Mac, Linux or Win PC.
