It may have been stated multiple times, but it obviously wasn't completely clear to me, which is why I asked for clarity - I wouldn't have wasted time asking the question otherwise.

I'm with you, it's crazy that a device that provides IR and Serial functionality needs to be replaced.  Literally zero reason for Control4 not to have supported I/O functions.  It's a pretty simple function, you don't need multiple iterations of controllers to perform such a function.

👋 3.0 then, I will never pay $18k to get a new GUI, damn it ... I just need a confirmation that C4 will continue supporting 2.10.6, they can EOL (End of Life) whatever they want but not EOS (End of Support).

You could go the Ebay route and purchase not too expensive EA1's and touchscreens.  If you have a lot of speaker points you could go Sonos and not worry about your OS upgrade being tied to your sound system equipment.

Control4 supports 13,500 third party products, you might be better off buying cheaper tablets with wall mounts, I/O extenders, doorbell cameras.

I get questions on my system all the time because of my touch screens.  It's kind of a showcase for the product, but they will be being replaced by sheet rock now.  There is no way I'm spending $1k a screen every five years, this is not an iPhone.

Bottom line, the less Control4 branded products you have the less you need to worry about swapping equipment every major OS release.

Lots of inaccuracies in a short story here:  https://www.engadget.com/2019/05/24/control4-smarthome-os-3/

Starting with the headline: "Control4's new hub connects 13,500 smart home devices on one screen"  - What new hub?  They announced an OS.

So an SVP is now the leader of a company?  Then what does CEO Martin Plaehn do?

Ironic that it works with 13,500 third party devices but not its own HC250.

Probably, or they like would have preferred to do the same as they are doing with the HC800. Oh I'm sure some will yell that it's a money grab, but I sincerely doubt that's true. There's something there preventing it directly (storage capacity for example) or indirectly like the cost of making it work (not just for the initial release but any following updates) -which could well be tremendous- didn't outweigh the inevitable lash-back.

I don't claim to know the reasoning as such - but there's ALWAYS people complaining when something gets dropped (including myself I should add).

Yes it does seem like a money grab, unless they explain otherwise.  They were actively selling this unit less than 3 years ago.

Why is the HC250 no longer supported when the HC800 is?  Was it that hard to allow users to be able to use it as a slave for I/O only?

HC250's were being sold and actively promoted less than three years ago.  It's absolutely ridiculous that they couldn't find a way to support this in 3.0.

Do you use your phone app or do you not carry your phone with you?  I have always found it so much easier to use the phone app over the in wall or portable touchscreen.

Sorry about that.  It *is* a kick in the pants, but it's cost prohibitive to update the Flash UI to support new features in OS3.0, or even to update it to continue to support current features, as there have been many under-the-cover changes (Audio Sessions, Lighting scenes, lock integration, etc.).

My personal opinion (not speaking officially for Control4) is that it's likely that the Android base is likely a much longer-lived platform.  Sadly, Flash player support was basically end-of-lifed by Adobe pretty much at the same time as it was released by Control4 in working products, so the flash platforms were very short-lived for Control4, who has traditionally gone out of their way to not EOL devices that are in-wall.

Again, I apologize for the pain.  It was very unfortunate timing.

The only good news, I suppose, is that your existing hardware should continue to work in the 2.X infrastructure.

Technology changes quickly.  The lesson I learned is that it's best to spackle up the holes in my walls and not make the same mistake again.

I missed the touch screen part.  Are you saying the touch screens I bought 4 years ago will not work in 3 or will the new interface just not update?

    Touch Screens (5) - 7" In-Wall v2, 7" Portable v2, 5" In-Wall (FKA: Infinity Edge), 7" In-Wall (FKA: Infinity Edge), 7" In-Wall RevB (FKA: Infinity Edge)

I think purchasing Control4 touchscreens moving forward would be a costly mistake.

Nobody is being forced to update their system to a version that could possibly obsolete their controller.  I'm still a fan ot the HC250.  You can still have a pretty impressive system on OS 2.91 using HC250's.

On a side note, every time Windows announces a new version, I don't get excited....  in fact, the opposite.

    LOL, agree on the Windows.

Everyone updates their phone, computer, tv the second it becomes available.  It's the way technology is these days.  Sure no one is forcing 3.0 on anyone.  However, I think it says something that in 3 years your secondary equipment is no longer upgradeable.  Especially a secondary controller that is supposed to be mounted behind TV's.  I can understand if it was the main controller but it's silly that something be used for IR and Serial outputs can't be added on a 3.0 system (again assuming the rumor is true).

Let's say my opinion on the legal side is 100% wrong. It probably is, as I'm absolutely not a lawyer.

It's still reckless to confirm/share anything beyond rumor. If someone does have inside information, they're risking their job to tell you something they're excited about.

What exciting information has been shared so far?  A new GUI?  The only information I have seen, so far, isn't very exciting. I'm assuming there will be things to get excited about, but nothing released so far is exciting.

  11. I feel bad for people who paid MSRP for HC250, a few years ago, and will now find out they need to be removed from "behind the tv" and replaced (if rumor is true since Control4 doesn't preannounce, blah blah blah).  It hurts a lot less paying $75 on ebay then $599 to my dealer.

An excellent reason to not buy a replacement, fool me once....

Did you ever get this working? I had my C4 dealer on site and tried calling them with no success. They have responded in the past though. Can't find any user reviews of this driver. Thanks in advance.

I was pretty much given the run around.  I had to email them multiple times over a month long time frame and told me it was in queue to be completed.  Finally, they said that I had to be on 2.10 in order for it to work.  I'd stay away from them.

    ;)

I tried to buy the driver from this company and was quoted $355 for the driver and install.  They had me add them on to the C4 system and needed my Carrier login (I used a generic one) and then never responded to multiple emails, calls.  I wouldn't recommend them, unfortunately, no other options to integrate.
