When I get into or out of my office chair some or all of my monitors go dark for a second.  I couldn't figure out what was happening until I saw this paper from 1993:  https://www.emcesd.com/pdf/eos93.pdf

It probably isn't your problem as it seems like it isn't just a problem related to getting in and out of chairs.

This is exactly what was happening to me in my living room. I was using a balun to bring video from my rack mounted receiver to my TV and every time I got out of my chair the tv would go black. I tried multiple cat 5e wires, TVs, and baluns but the issue was persistent. I finally fixed it by running a fiber HDMI. I have the issue on video. Crazy.

The best you can do is 24 hours before due to the data returned.  That's a long time to have your hearing element on for in my opinion.

Got it thank you. So this driver would not be useful for automatically turning on a heated driveway because it would have to run 24 hours in advanced (too long)?

looking at that line of code I don’t know what time they would go on.  if it’s going to snow tomorrow (let’s say Wednesday at 6pm is the forecast) that code looks like sometime on Tuesday it’s going to turn on.  Could be on for more than 24 hours before it snows?

For me I found 3-4 hrs in advance fine.  I’d rather not have it on for 10+ hours or more than 24 hours in advance.

    That makes sense. Thank you!

@alanchow do you have any inout here? Any thoughts on being able to have the driveway turn on a set number of hours before snow? Thanks

no it just got too confusing for me.

I kind of use the wake up agent in reverse - but basically I can set a time for when I want an action to happen, that action happens to be putting on the heated stairs.  So we'll watch the weather and get an idea of when the snow is going to come, then I can set the wake agent to ~3-4 hours in advance and it will kick on the heated stairs.  Some manual intervention but I never got the math down with all the variables to use the agent.  And again for heated stairs/driveway it takes a while to get the surface warm, so you need to start hours before the snow event, and that was always my issue, getting it to start in advance.

Thanks for the input. What ended up being too complicated? I was thinking of using it for basic programming such as the programming in the driver docs (image attached). When it is going to snow tomorrow, turn on heated driveway one day before.

Yes it “works” but snow is read in a liquid measurement not solid.  So when I got 8-9” storm over night c4 read 16.x one day and 19.x another day

after googling it seems like a liquid to solid ratio for snow is anywhere from 10:1 to 20:1 based on if it’s a heavy wet snow vs a light and fluffy snow.

may take trial and error to dial it in and we only get a few storms anyway.  So this is a work in progress for me

I am considering using this solution for my heated driveway. Are you still using this solution? How did everything work out for you?

  6. Thank you guys.

I just went through this for a client...ended up using this driver, even though the Icons for the driver aren't as nice/driveway specific.

    https://drivercentral.io/platforms/control4-drivers/enhanced-countdown-timer/

Is it possible to change these icons to something that resembles a heated driveway icon? Does anyone have thoughts on programming the driveway to turn on based on weather?

  7. Hey Guys,

I'm finally getting around to integrating my heated driveway and walkway into C4. I understand that C4 has a driver heater timer experience button, but it doesn't seem to be of much use to me because the maximum timer length is 180 min. I need my driveway heater to be on for days at a time. I'm not sure who would turn their driveway heater on for 180 minutes but I might be missing something.

Anyway I am looking for ideas on the best solution for integrating a heated driveway. I do like the idea of having the heater turn on automatically based on weather. All input is greatly appreciated!

  8. Hey guys I believe I am experiencing a bug with intercom on IOS. When my DS2 doorbell rings and I answer the intercom call on my iPhone with AirPods in, the audio from the call switches to the speakers on my phone rather than going to my AirPods. This is my experience every time I answer a call with AirPods in. Is anyone else experiencing this?

My system is on OS 3.3.3. My c4 app is fully up to date.

  9. I appreciate everyone's input and help. I am down to two options for screen material. Screen innovations Slate AT (acoustically transparent) 1.2 or Pure White AT 1.3.

I have decided that I would rather have the best quality with the lights off than to be able to use the screen with the lights on. The basement is pitch black with the lights off, but my concern is that I have a white ceiling and walls. The ceiling height is low (7ish feet) and light scatter from the projector lights up the ceiling and walls. The wall's and ceiling are staying white.

Should I go with SI Slate AT 1.2 or Pure White AT 1.3? Thanks again.

I’d be very cautious about using an ALR (active light rejection) screen. They generally have noticeable sparkles from the fresnel prisms and also have some degree of color shift. You don’t need ALR if you just have a few lights on. It’s really most beneficial if there are lights directly over the screen or bright omni-directional light from windows. There are noticeable drawbacks for these types of screens, so be sure you are ready to accept them.

Also, are you adding an anamorphic lens to convert your projector output from 1.78:1 to 2.40:1? If not, you will always have noticeable light spillover above and below the screen. I would not use a 2.40:1 screen unless the projector is converted to a matching 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

Thank you for your help! I was not familiar with these drawbacks of ALR screens. I thought that the ALR screen would  sacrifice on image quality but not in a way that would be noticeable to the untrained eye.

I have a Sony VPL-XW6000ES projector. I am planning on getting an anamorphic lens to convert the output to 2.40:1, but I was only aware of the image quality benefits that would come with it. Would an anamorphic lens allow me to completely eliminate light spillover? If so, should I choose to go with the zero edge screen over a screen with 3.5 inch black velvet bezels? Thank you for everything!

  11. Hi everyone. Thank you all for your input.  After plenty of research, I am leaning towards a Screen Innovations 5 Fixed 120” 2.40:1 with Slate AT 1.2 material. I chose Slate because 95% of the time we are going to be watching movies in the dark but occasionally we might want the lights on for something more casual. I was originally going to go with their zero edge screen but I was worried about light bleeding over the edge of the screen which pushed me to the 5 fixed. Any thoughts / advice on going with the SI 5 Fixed in Slate AT 1.2?

    A few questions:

What is the size of your room?
Is the room completely light controlled?
How far from the screen is your seating?

If the system is mostly used for movies, I always recommend cinemascope (2.40). Over 73% of the films made since the mid 1970's are in scope format.

I'm a big fan of Stewart Filmscreen.

Hi Dawn thanks for the help.

The room size is interesting… This basement has very low ceilings and I understood that that this would require compromises but I went forward with it anyway and I am very happy with how it’s going. I have installed two rows of seating with the back row on a raised platform. The maximum height of the screen should be no more than 48.2” so that the back row can see the bottom of the screen without the heads of the people in the first row getting in the way. I installed the projector to test this.

    Dimensions: 21’ length, 16’ width, 7’ 2” height

The room is completely light controlled and the front of the first row is about 9 feet from the screen. I understand none of this is ideal but with everything in place I am really happy with how it worked out. I really appreciate your help!

  13. I am adding a "casual home theater" to my basement. I have purchased a Sony 6000 projector and now I need a screen to go with it. I will almost only use the theater to watch movies.

My only requirements are the following:

    - Fixed (non moving) screen

    - acoustically transparent (left right center speakers are behind the screen)

    - 120 inch

    Questions:

    - What aspect ratio should I go with (I was leaning towards 16:9 since I will almost only be using it for movies but I am unsure if this is the right choice)?

    - What make/model screen should I choose?

Please excuse my ignorance on this topic. Any and all advice/help is greatly appreciated!

  14. Update: I was going to go with Sperry West based on above, but they were out of my budget. It's extremely difficult to find NDAA compliant covert cameras but I was able to find another option. The Vitek VTC-PIR4CN-4 checked all my boxes including being NDAA compliant for $75. I ended up ordering two of them and I installed the first one 2 days ago and put it on my Luma NVR. Vitek has a control4 driver for the camera on their website but I have not tested it yet. I highly recommend. Hope this helps someone down the line.
