It really is pretty trivial to do, either with C4:SendToNetwork for sockets or C4:urlGet for Eventghost.  The main work will be in mapping keys on a C4 controller to the commands you want on the PC.  It might make sense to have most, or all of them, be Properties that can be changed in Composer.
Maybe the best way to even do this is to create a generic driver where you enter a URL prefix and port as Properties.  You also have all of the keyboards mapped to commands in Properties.  Then you could use this for pretty much anything.  You could also add a suffix in case some apps needed that as well.
    g_URLPrefix="http://192.168.1.149/myapp?command="

What's the best way to control a PC running Windows 10 with a C4 remote?  Using the Windows Media Center driver?  Will that allow you to map a button to "Ctrl-Escape" which is equivalent to pressing the windows key?  That then allows you to use the transport keys to select items on the Win 10 tiled start screen, including Netflix, etc.

Most of my TVs still use Harmony remotes.  For a few years they are all hub based Harmony remotes so that you don't need LoS (the remote communicates to the hub with RF and the hub blasts out IR or BlueTooth)  - but my wife and many other people who use them in our house still point them towards the components.

But to be honest, that's what people are used to.  90%+ of remotes that people use are IR and require LoS.  I bet that a lot of C4 users point there remotes at the TV when they use it, thinking that they need LoS.

Again - what about for controlling the PS4?  Didn't you say this a couple of weeks ago about the IrUSB:
So why wouldn't it be useful to be able to control a PS4?  Or a Shield without an IrUSB?  Or a PC?

So then what do people do for control if they have one of the following:  PS4, Wii, Switch?  And the Shield (and other AndroidTV devices) would be more easily controlled with BT vs. other methods.  Some AndroidTV devices have built in IR, some don't.  Some have apps that can be controlled with IP but I don't think that is the case with all apps - I think it is true for stuff like Kodi and Plex but not native apps like Netflix, YouTube.
BT for audio and HID are two different beasts but there is no reason that it can't work.  Cars can have multiple BT conections to your phone -- for handsfree audio, data, etc.
AndroidTV had noting to do with BT (otherthan you can use BT to control AndroidTV devces) but I just thought I would throw that one out.  I have been reading up some of the stuff on Netplay and with AndroidTV on the controller it could act as a receiver for content from Netplay.  But even if you don't care about Netplay you can get almost al of the content you want with apps in AndroidTV so it can allow you to go back to one source in many instances.  A controller can act as an audio receiver of a sort with stuff like Shairbridge and Spotify Connect, so why not do the same with video?

There have been a few drivers around for SageTV through the years - both with IR and IP control.  I am working on a new driver using IP control and am willing to share it and I am looking for ideas around functionality.  My main use case is with SageTV HD200 and HD300 extenders but this should  work with PC or AndroidTV clients as well, like the Shield, MiBox, etc.

So this allows you to now have IR control in a room with no C4 controller or other type of extender?

zaphod got a reaction from elee532 in Basic smart lighting system for use with EA-1?
The C4 lighting stuff is good but it can be expensive as you are looking at over $100 for each dimmer or switch.  Hue stuff can be way cheaper (depending on bulbs per dimmer and other things) than that but isn't as flexible or controllable in C4.  And there can be other issues - like someone might shut off the switch feeding the C4 bulbs.  Hue lights are about $12/bulb for white.  But they come in a limited number of form factors.

Has anyone done  any work in integrating C4 and MQTT?  Such as writing an MQTT driver for C4?  This could be an interesting way to communicate to third party hardware.

zaphod got a reaction from wappinghigh in Is Alexa becoming a C4 competitor at the low end?
Today Amazon announced a bunch of new Echo devices and new functionality for Alexa.  You can now set up "routines" like good morning, good night, etc that can control multiple devices.  Does that make it somewhat of an integrated smarthome controller?  The Echo plus now has Zigbee support, but it isn't clear what that means.

I hope that you will be able to set the alarm clock in a way that it doesn't double as a night light.  I hate most modern clock radios for this reason.

Thanks Joshua.  The plugin that I would most like is homebridge-harmony as I use the Logitech Harmony web based remotes/hubs to control all of my AV rather than Control4.  It would be nice to have that working on Homebridge and Siri - there is an Alexa skill but it only allows you to control one Harmony hub and I have many.
What would be even better is a Logitech Harmony driver in Control4 so that you could use a Harmony hub as an IR endpoint, but I don't think that is likely unless I write it myself.

I don't now that you can say that Apple is going for the low end.  Look at products like the Nest thermostat.  It works with C4 but if it works in Apple's unified app then that is likely good enough for most people.  Add in some simple programming, though something like an IFTTT recipe and you are good to go.  Now dealer, no $1000 controller no 4Sight sub to get an email that your house is too cold.
