malelan got a reaction from ejn1 in Snap Versabox Pro / Related Questions
a few things,  versabox is fine, but any flushmount box would work.

i have a samsung frame,  for the money, i do not think it was worth it,  its a clean look, i never use the art mode.
one thing you should consider is that the samsung frame (atleast the one i have) is a one connect single cable device, which means you need a giant box connected to the tv,  this cable is not wall rated, so you need to hide that giant one connect box behind the tv, and it DOES NOT fit in a standard versabox,  snapav have released an extra large versabox specifically to fit this device in it (i do not have this, and endeed up cutting a giant hole in my box)
    hope this helps

I haven't gotten my core/nano yet, so i cannot speak on any of that stuff.
What i can confirm is that i have a Sonos Port hooked up to a c4 matrix and that works fine.  "Hey Josh, play metallica" uses the sonos port to the room i'm in.  If i'm somewhere else i use my c4 touchpanels to use c4 music services.

The pulled driver is unreliable anyway,  Amazon released a new FireOS shortly after the driver was written.

I think thats the only advantage,  It's just cleaner for the end user to understand what source they are in by looking at the remote.  It makes programming a bit easier if you want to fire commands when certain devices are selected  i.e Red button when Room Media Device = Netflix etc.  This should still be possible either way, but a bit more work the other way.

Finally got around to getthing this fan installed/programmed.
fan connects via ip, and driver works as advertised, no fuss connect ip 2 way control for both fan (6 speed + reverse switch) and led attached light (dimmable)
my only complaint would be that the driver doesn't include button link connections so when you try to link them up to the keypad, you need to do this through programming instead of just making the binding in composer.

I think its very reasonable to expect this to work 'out of the box', the control4 driver for Josh.ai is very functional today, and didn't require much setup at all.  They have a very solid grasp on audio/video matrix/routing through control4, so i would imagine its as simple as binding the core outputs to your matrix and making sure the systems are aware of these connections.
To the comment up above about removing t3s/t4s, i thought about this, but i use them pretty often to display cameras,  its pretty nice to tell josh to 'show me the driveway' and have it pop up on the navigators.
If anyone has josh specific questions, i'll do my best to answer,  i've spent a ton of time playing with it and using it for a few months now.
I'll be installing the nanos/core once available as well.
The biggest difference for me over alexa/google was as follows
    - not being locked into the ecosystem was a bonus
    - reserved commands in alexa/google were annoying
    - not being able to play music throuh anything expect the google/amazon speaker i'm talking to,  i realize there are some hacks you can do to get this to work better with chromecast audio, etc, but it always required a non intuitive command to initiate.  - one of my big gripes (and something my wife could never understand) was why we couldn't just say something like "Listen to Metallica in the living room" and get it to play over the speakers.   additionally, as we're spotify users, we wanted the ability to listen to a specific song "listen to enter sandman by metallica in the living room" .  This was the simple request,  Josh has taken this a stop further as i no longer have to even specifiy the living room if i'm in the living room, and i have a micro (or future nano) in the same room.
With Google/Alexa i found myself going out of my way to initiate and use voice control, it was a cool novelty when people came over and i got to show it off with a very specific set of pre-set commands.  and occasionally, if i went into the baement with my hands full and i needed the light on, i'd say "Turn the basement on, Turn the basement light on,  turn the light in the basement on" until the light came on,  sometimes it took a few tries.  With the Josh stuff it's been better, I find myself using it out of convenience more than just forcing it into my routine.  In situations where my phrase doesn't do what i want it to do, its as easy as logging into the josh web portal, finding what i said int he history log and making sure it knows what that means for next time..
I know i probably sound like a salesman, so i'm going to go through some of the negatives below.
    - Josh and control4 don't really have a great way to exchange information between the systems with the exception of device status.  Meaning they can tell each other when a light is on , etc,  but if i needed to pull the status of my alarm system from Josh, there isn't really an easy way to do this (some work arounds)
    - Devices that are natively supported by Josh need to be setup on both sides (control4, and again in Josh)  specifically Roku, Sonos, etc.
    - Josh is missing a ton of internet functionality that Google and Alexa have.  Look up information (Alexa, how old is gary busey?)  Josh cannot do any of this stuff, we used it once in awhile and it was handy,  Additionally we used the google home in the kitchen to set timers for various cooking tasks.  The language recoginition around this in Josh is not as well built out as it is in the other systems.

the issue is the micro has a speaker on it, and the nano (their new tiny device does not) right now wiht a standard control 4 system, there is no way to broadcast josh replies (and responses) through the c4 in home audio (the system was designed for sonos)  the josh core has audio outputs that can go into a c4 matrix and allow the responses from josh to speak/announce over the in room speakers in places where a micro isn't present,  and even in places where a micro is present if that is preferred (and it generally is, as the micro speaker fidelity is like the early versions of google mini/echo dot, which is kind of garbage)
hope this helps, i am currently using josh with control4. and i'm very happy, but do acknolwedge that it is a bit of a luxury in what it offers over google/amazon today.  but i do like the custom programming aspect, and it is a really seamless solution.

First time I've encountered one of these fans,  purchased by client off Amazon
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q6HSJFW
explicitly says control4,  but can't find anything in driver database for it, wondering if its under a different name brand.
looking at the hardware, looks like it connects via wifi.
    anyone have any info?

I have a bigger install today but if I have time later this afternoon I’ll remote in and double check that customers configuration. I’ll get you the resolutions we are using on sub stream for navigator.

malelan got a reaction from turls in C4 Lighting - Keypad button ideas
i'll take a stab here as i just went through a bedroom remodel and its a similar configuration

    master bedroom - main door
    Overhead Lights
    Blinds
    Fan
Room Off (this is a 3 space button and is consistent with other room offs in the house)

Night Tables (we each have one as well)
    Night Table Light (respective)
    Blinds
    Fan
    Room Off

Kitchen (we have a touchscreen here too, but the switch has)
    Kitchen Overhead Lights
    Garage Light
    Garage Door 1
    Garage Door 2

Living Room - also touchscreen here but we use this switch alot
    Overhead Light
    Fan
    Mute
    Room Off

    Office
    Light
    Blinds
    Fan
    Room Off

    my advice is as follows
    - Try to keep things consistent, if room off is in different spots between rooms it would be a pain.
    - Buttons can always be changed but its a lot of work, programming is a lot easier to change.
    - we do use the lights for feedback in some areas.  examples are if a garage door is open, that button is red, so its easy to see if we left something open (i'm notorious for this, so we also get emails and texts if its open for more than 15 minutes).
    - in some areas, we use double taps,  if you double tap the room off on my night table stand it triggers the good night routine.  shutting things off, turning fan on etc.  if you double tap the light on my night table it starts my personal wake up routine.
    - the window treatment stuff has a little programming behind it.  it cycles between 20% open, 50% open and closed.  anything outside of that, and i need to use the actual slider on a touchpad/remote.

    hope this helps,

malelan got a reaction from HeadHammer in Samsung One Connect Box Question
i just went through this.  may not directly answer your questions, but some info below

    - There are no connections on the back of the tv besides the one connect cable port.  it is proprietary to samsung.
    - anything you want to connect to the tv needs to go through the one connect box
    - on my tv (slightly different, but likely same setup) the power is also routed through the one connect box
    - the one connect cable is not rated for in wall use
    - snapav has just released an in-wall backing box that is large enough to accomodate the one connect box called the versabox XL - this was announced literally days after i installed my box.  the previous versaboxes are not big enough to fit the oneconnect box, so i ended up having to cut a giant hole in the box to push half the one connect device behind the wall, a bit of a nightmare.

hope this helps, happy to answer any questions,  don't believe there is any way to get out of this, if i was in your situation, id install the larger versabox, store the one connect box directly behind the tv in the wallbox, and then keep my existing cable setup.

That's more than likely a latency issue between where the movie is stored and the kodi box. Or the fact that your box isn't fast enough to play the movie back correctly.
