  1. Here is a thread on how to send announcements to Sonos speakers: However, you might find that this device would give you an easier and potentially more reliable solution: https://www.axxind.com/product/plug-in-chime/
  2. Based on our experience, your first proposed approach should work. In our case, we are using Sonos, so I don't know if Triad One would be different. But, setting that aside, we eventually got it working after dealer bound each Roon Zone to Audio Endpoint 2 in the respective room and then bound the associated Sonos device in each room to both Audio Volume 1 and Audio Volume 2 in that room.
  3. After further review, I got one detail wrong in my description above. The primary EA1 is wired to the router, but the secondary EA1 is actually connected via wifi right now. Assuming I can't run an ethernet cable to that secondary controller, would the above configuration suggested by @RAV still work, or would it need some alteration? To be specific, I am planning a MikroTik hEX router to an unmanaged 8-port switch, which will be connected to the primary EA1, the primary Eero Pro, and all the other wired equipment. The secondary controller would then connect via wifi to Eero.
  4. Is "in a session" one of the room variables? This is a cool idea, but I don't see where to program against to identify whether the room is in a session. Is this using a particular driver?
  5. I can see how that might seem weird, but it so happens that both EA1s are within like 8 feet of the cable modem. She has one TV in the office where the modem is, and another one in the living room just outside the office. Good question though.
  6. Maybe I'll give the Mikrotik hEX a shot as the wired-only router in this configuration.
  7. Thanks, that sounds totally doable! Do you have any router recommendations? I am a Unifi guy, but I'm thinking she doesn't need all that functionality (or Unifi's sometimes squirrelly updates.)
  8. The EA1's are both wired to the router. She does not use music streaming, the C4 app, or 4Sight. Her dealer does occasionally remote into her system to troubleshoot non-hardware issues. Other than that, it's just a smart remote setup.
  9. I know mesh wifi is highly problematic with C4, but I am wondering if it is the best choice in the context below, or if people have other ideas. My elderly mother lives in an 1800 square foot condo. Her cable modem connection comes in at one corner of the condo, and we are unable to run cat6 to any other locations in the house. The problem is that her consumer grade routers (TP-Link and previously Netgear) have not provided decent wifi in the far corner of the house. Would a mesh network solve her wifi problems without causing new problems for her (very small) C4 installation? Her C4 gear consists only of 2 EA-1s that control AV components via IR only and 2 SR-260s that go along with them. Would mesh be ok in this circumstance? If so, is there one brand more likely to play nicely than others? Does anyone have other non-mesh suggestions that might work better? I realize running cat6 is the best solution, but there is neither an attic nor a crawl space, and she does not want surface mounted wires anywhere. Thanks!
  10. The door auto-lock experience button should show the lock icon on top of the door icon. You can set the auto-lock time to zero if you don’t want to use the auto-lock feature but instead just want it for manual control and status display.

    Roon 2.0

I agree with that assessment. And I also agree that every Sonos/C4 user should be falling all over themselves to get Roon, if the driver actually worked reliably for this use case. I dunno -- maybe Roon has rationally concluded that the Sonos/C4 market is not big enough for a company of their size to profitably address. I won't pretend to know their business better than they do. But, their approach to all this is for sure a total bummer.
  12. I've used Honeywell thermostats and then switched to Ecobee. The Honeywells are solid as thermostats, but I had all kinds of issues programming against them in C4. Ecobee was much better. And, its flakiness seems to have improved over the past year or two. You could use Ecobees in your setup, albeit with some compromises. If you place a wireless remote sensor where each of your current wired sensors are, and then put the basic Ecobee Lite thermostats in the boiler room, that will work. You can set up your Ecobee so that it operates based only on the remote sensor. Since the sensors are mission critical, you probably want to put two of them in each location, in case one of them runs out of battery power. Definitely not as elegant as using a wired sensor, but it may be worth considering if you don't see one unassailable option. We do use one of our Ecobees this way, because that particular thermostat is mounted in a location that gets a ton of sun, which distorts the temp readings. We have multiple remote sensors connected, and we almost always get battery alerts well before they run out completely. It works fine.
  13. Totally off-topic, @South Africa C4 user, but how do you send a message with a complete list of all open windows/doors? I am having a hard time seeing how to do that without a ton of code. What is your secret?
  14. Thanks for all the advice on here. I would not have thought to verify all these points.
  15. That is really neat! I have always wanted to get engraved labels on our 3-way aux switches. Would our electrician have to do anything special when replacing an existing auxiliary switch with a C4 switch? Or would he just wire it the same way as he had wired the auxiliary switch? Thanks a lot.
  16. Do you need a UDM-Pro in order to adopt the Unifi6 Pro's? I am using a USG router and am wondering if that precludes switching. I saw something in the product documentation about the need for a UDM-Pro, but it wasn't super clear to me.
  17. I have a WattBox where each outlet is bound to a relay in C4. It's useful to have the relays visible, so that I can power them on or off from C4 Navigators. However, I find it awkward that they make the locks and sensors screen really messy. Before the WattBox was set up in C4, I used to use the locks and sensors screen to identify any open windows, doors, and locks. But now, when I go to locks and sensors and filter on active devices, I have to scroll through every singled one of my powered-on WattBox outlets, which I have to scroll through before seeing whether or not there are any open doors or windows. Is there a better way to organize the WattBox relays? I like having access to the relays in C4, but I really hate having them junk up the "active" locks and sensors screen. Thanks!

    Roon 2.0

This is a reasonable suggestion, but I am quite pessimistic about Roon's actual support of C4. I was a beta tester on Roon's C4 driver several years ago. As part of that process, I sent them a list of about 40-50 reproducible bugs. Granted, some were minor, but a number of them were very significant -- e.g., multi-room playback didn't work, and playback initiated in the Roon app does not reliably reflect in C4, at least for Sonos users. At the time, they told me they were opening support tickets and that their team was working on them. 2+ years later, they have fixed exactly none of them, and they long ago stopped responding to follow-ups. The Roon forums regularly feature Control4 users becoming irate at a lack of response for all manner of issues. Sadly, I think we are pretty much on our own for anything other than the simplest type of support.

    Roon 2.0

I lost the search function in Qobuz and Tidal also. Maybe it just took a minute for my Roon driver to catch up to yours. Ugh.
  20. I think OP is referring to a different company also named Epic Systems, if I'm reading this correctly. I'm guessing that Epic Systems based in NY/NJ is this company: https://epicsystems.tech. However, I think everyone else is referring to Ari's Epic Systems firm, here: https://www.epic-systems.com.

    Roon 2.0

Gotcha. And now I understand why I didn't notice this problem! I stopped using Tidal via C4, because it invariably crashes my touch screens when I scroll. Qobuz is fine for me in that respect, but I just had to give up on Tidal, unless I am using the Roon app.
