I agree that C4 works well for these 2 groups of people.  But it also works very well for other groups.  I love C4 and don’t fit in either category…

Composer HE is expected to release on 2/23/2024, if no additional critical issues are found. If any of you would like early access then DM me and I can get you a copy of the beta version for use/testing.

Points for transparency and owning the miss. What we all like to see in software, but rarely get in public. Well done.

A couple additional issues surfaced during the beta, so those are being addressed now with a new HE build that should go out for testing soon. We'll be rolling the HE update out once testing and validation pass successfully. We have also identified the gap in testing that allowed this to slip out in an unfunctional state and have updated our testing/release process for HE to ensure this shouldn't happen again in the future.

Greenfield solutions is excited to release our latest innovation: project quick start. This is a whole new way for dealers to think about starting a project. It's an agent that makes building out device and room hierarchies much quicker than manually double clicking a hundred plus times in a project. In our benchmarking, this can provide significant time savings.

Thanks for the advice, I wasnt familiar with the DiTek but it looked a lot more robust than the Unifi and you only have to run one ground wire to the outside for multiple ports.   I will likely place also on the exterior wall a Ruckus T310 since I'm pulling the wire anyway it's nice to get a better wifi signal outside as well.

That’s how we did it but ran through conduit to the pool house (about 200’ I think) and cat6 to pool controller, WiFi AP etc. generators are in a different location but also through conduit. Our exterior runs (these plus cameras) run through a bunch of rack mounted surge protectors that work great. Never had an issue with any of them.

Honestly @Vish, it was a one-off scenario.  I can't recall a time recently when Composer HE had a bug that made it inoperable for a time.  This is the first instance I've seen, and it isn't the norm.  Yes there are always risks on the latest OS, but this is not a regular occurrence, so I wouldn't worry too much, just an inconvenience, albeit a pretty significant one for clients.

@Vish I wouldn't have to redo the programming sir.  I made backups on every revision after 2.10.6 all the way to 3.4.1.  Been doing this a long time, and I try my best to make sure that nothing needs to be re-done.
I can't fix composer HE, but I can make sure everything that I've done up until this point is secure, which it is.

I was referring primarily to these points. I agree HE is limited in audience but it is also an important competitive advantage - it was part of why we went with C4 over competitors for the reasons quoted above.

Though I can’t subscribe to your idea of this being a planned outage, your points about the perceptions of HE and value to the platform and customers are well said and dead on I think.

I have a tremendous amount of empathy for technology professionals -- especially those supporting forward-facing roles.  How many times has a producer, after a massively profitable week, called a supporting tech department with thanks because no technology issues presented?  Unfortunately, the answer is very few.  The reality is a ton of very talented people are focused in the background permitting us to be unconcerned about critical infrastructure.
I think this is a very good opportunity for those of us who are impacted to reach out to the business leaders / senior management of SnapOne and let them know that Composer HE is a critically important part of our decision to select C4, a catalyst for C4-branded product purchases, and a post-sale source of enjoyment.
There seems to be a misconception that Composer HE serves under-capitalized DIYers who are buying castoff items on eBay.  SnapOne leadership would be making a massive commercial mistake if it subscribes to this fallacy.  The reality is that the high income, HNW / UHNW client base that can afford professional grade home automation systems often have common traits of impatience, a desire for operational control, and privacy.  I have zero interest in being made dependent on a contractor's W2  employee when I want to make a minor adjustment to the environment of my own home.  Yes, there are times when I may elect to delegate.  But if a system forces me to wait or makes me hostage to someone else's schedule, that system will be in the rubbish bin -- fast.  Composer HE is a competitive advantage for C4 over Crestron and Savant.  Composer HE has provided a real-life introduction to programming for my kids and provided pride of ownership for me.
Let me be clear, I like the dealer model.  And my dealer has zero interest in programming many of the very useful tasks that we as a family have experimented with -- especially as staffing gets more difficult.  All of these additional functions have led to thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollar spend on products -- which my dealer likes.
There are several improvements that I would like to see to Composer HE.  None of these suggestions involve granting HE the ability to alter bindings or add devices.  Leave that to the dealer.
Specifically (and please help me out so I can send a comprehensive list):
edit and modify existing lines of programming code (currently revisions require an entire line (except compound conditionals) to be deleted and reentered in entirety) project-global search and replace (a version of Detective Suite); currently, I use a PDF version of the full system report in Adobe Acrobat to find specific lines of code the ability to see but not change bindings a copy and paste feature that targets selected lines of code a search feature in the Variable Agent In closing, I suggest that SnapOne look at the success premium brands have enjoyed by encouraging subsets of its user base better understand the workings of their products.  Rolls Royce offers Factory Days that literately delve under the hood with a mechanic.  MBUSA and Porsche offer track experiences.  Range Rover has several company sponsored off-road adventures.  This is not only fun for some owners but permits better appreciation of the car and strengthens the relationship between owner and dealer.
My fear is that the Composer HE outage is less of an unplanned bug fix and more of a deliberate strategy to gauge the utility of the software.  If you ask a tech user if he/she would object to removing a feature, most will instinctively object.  Much more effective is to quietly turnoff the feature set and see if anyone notices or complains.
I am eager to hear thoughts from others ....

A new HE is built and will be going through internal testing.
When ready, it's expected you'll just need to update HE.

Thanks! I hadn’t thought of the Multisystem driver.  I had a quick look at the documentation and one problem (for my setup) is that it requires a secure tunnel (VPN) between the residences.  My routers are not capable of this… but it has sparked another thought. Maybe I should upgrade my routers as creating such a tunnel would open up various other ways of swapping data between the 2 residences.  I will give it some thought although I think it will be a bit too expensive for now.

Isn’t there a driver that mirrors devices between houses? Would that do it? I can’t remember the details of the driver but I feel like I saw that somewhere…..

We moved into our new house last week and just put the finishing touches on the Control4 system. There's plenty more to tweak and explore but we at least have all the components integrated and the basics work.
    System consists of:
    - Core 5 controller
    - Josh AI Core and Josh Nanos/Micros throughout the house
    - UniFi network gear and cameras
    - Kaleidescape
    - 8 zones of audio with Klipsch speakers
    - AV receives for two living rooms with Formovie Theater projector for basement living room
    - 16 channels for panelized lights
    - Integrated security system - mostly used for smoke detectors and various sensors to use with C4 programming.
I can't wait to mess with programming more as soon as Composer HE works again.

at least I am still not on WinXP
but for the sake of sanity and happy household, I never have auto updates set.  Even things like my Unifi APs, they aren't on auto updates.  I'll wait for a weekend that the wife is out of the house (or even just for a long day) so I can upgrade and if things go sideways I have time to troubleshoot and fix it before she gets home and wonders why she cannot use a device.

The other side of this is what about customers outside the USA?
Does the fact that we are forced to stay on 4sight mean that we won’t get access to new features? While I am not keen on the extra payment for the new 4sight (Connect), I also don't want to be forced into not having new features (depending on what these are)…

Part of the reason for this program is because there are so many C4 owners that have been abandoned by their dealer or have had conflict and parted ways, this gives the customer a way to deal with C4 to have issues resolved although I’m not sure how that’s going to go with how we’ve seen some systems are put together… they need a bomb not tech support
Another aspect is to let the integrator work on new jobs and not get bogged down with service requests which I think is a complete crock of crap, if you’re so bad at putting systems together and business in general that you can’t figure out how to put together a reliable system then service the minor issues that might crop up then C4 should have a mechanism is place to at least delist that dealer from the dealer locator
It’s embarrassing that Assist is becoming a thing but it speaks to the quality of dealers in general and not the C4 product which we find to be quite reliable. Other snap products like their amps and hdmi extenders are piss poor and we haven’t used them for a number of years
