  1. We prefer Sony. They just work. Have a ton of Android mini app if you want to use them. Most importantly, I haven't come across a Sony firmware update that breaks the Control4/Sony TV integration.
  2. Can you buy new car visor remotes for that garage door and program them? If so, buy the new remotes, wire those to a relay on Control4. That may be your easiest solution.
  3. That's basically what a GRI 2600 water sensor is.
  4. One option to consider: - Leave the Lutron dimmers/switches in place. (Mixing the dimmers won't look very good in my opinion). - Extend Control4 ZigBee network using Control4 receptacles. This is all dependent on styles, colors of both the Lutron equipment and Control4.
  5. This is our preferred method. But you can also use something like GRI 2600 (either 2 wire or 4 wire conductor) if you have an open Contact/power on your processor. You will need a dealer to add/bind. Regardless of what option you choose, I also highly recommend @Cinegration Water Agent, click here for driver details!
  6. Not sure how your garage door is wired, how the zigbee signal is but if you connect a Z2io to the VCRX in parallel and you could then bind a relay to the "Relay Garage Door Controller". This way the Lutron system could open/close it and so could the C4. Just a thought. You would need a dealer to install/bind it.
  7. Most times we aren't on site when doing the initial programming. We export the report and program everything first and then test it once the site is complete. There is a "Relay Garage Door Controller" driver that will show a picture of a garage door when it's open/closed but it requires a relay to be bound and a closed and/or open contact to be bound as well.
  8. I can expand a bit more on the programming You can name the VRCx Outputs "Left Door" for contact 1. "Right Door" for contact 2, 3 and 4 in the Lutron software. Set the outputs to Pulse for each door you want to open/close You can program the buttons on the VRCx to Pulse for 1.0 second or so to open/close the door(s) with the Lutron software. When you activate the VCRX, it will assign an ID to it to the VRCx ID xx This ID will have 6 buttons associated with it. Use the Reports >> Integration to generate a report of all the IDs Search the RR-VCRX-WH it will list the ID and each button you program will be listed there. In Control4 add a Lutron RadiorRa2 Keypad driver and assign it the same ID for the VRCx from the ID Report. You can use Custom Buttons and label it "Garage Door" then list Open/Close for each door on the VCRx Use the button XX press to trigger the VRCx button to open/close the doors. Pretty much what net_tech said You will need a dealer to add the keypad driver if it's not already there.
  9. I am not a fan of nest thermostats. I have fixed more HVAC problems/installs from other companies that use them then I care to count/remember. One of the things I have seen is that if the battery gets low, the thermostat shuts off so it can charge the battery. In a winter climate where temps can get down to -40F... the last thing I want the thermostat to do is shut off . While the Control4 thermostat and many others do have 4 AA batteries, I never use them to run the thermostats (we install them but just back up purposes).. again, don't want anything happening during cold winters. We always supply power from the furnace, it's safer and better.
  10. It depends on two factors. 1) what was the previous thermostat wired for / what type of furnace it is? IE. was it wired for a 'communicating' thermostat. IE. 4 wires. 2 wires for power, 2 wires for data? Where does the wires go back to? @DanITman was referring to this. Some newer Carrier furnaces use communicating thermostats for their high efficient 7 stage furnaces. If it is a newer Carrier and you want to install a different thermostat you will have to give up the 7 stage efficiency. It means it will burn more gas, it's not a lot more, but it is something to consider. 2) If it's a standard furnace, it depends on how many functions the furnace is doing. - How many stages of heat - How many stages of cool - Is there a fan connected? If it's a simple single stage heat with fan control you need 4 wires but they have to go back to the furnace. - 2 wires for power - 1 wire for fan - 1 wire for heating While it is possible to run some thermostats off batteries. I don't recommend doing it.
  11. 100%. I wouldn't update a Control4 DS2/Firmware outside of Control4. Depending on what version of DS2 firmware you are running, if it's old, it may wipe your default password and either make you pick a new one and/or assign a new root password. This was to make it compliant with California's laws. I can't recall the exact firmware it did this on and how it handled the new password requirement. Just remember it happened.
  12. Are you using the 2N driver/firmware or the Control4 driver/firmware? Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the only way to update the DS2 firmware is by updating the Control4 driver. There is a spot in the DS2 GUI to update the firmware with a file, but I have never seen a standalone firmware for the DS2. (Not to say it doesn't exist). Do you know what version you are currently on? What version are you looking to upgrade to? Are you using any custom VOIP, call group settings?
  13. @ashwinmj I just took a few minutes to test your use case using Room Control. I can confirm the "Room Control" driver does not work. I Created programming that when the room entered to watch mode to activate a light in my room. it could not do it using my iPhone to automatically turn on the TV via Airplay. I could trigger a light to turn on when the TV is turned from the navigators inside Control4. I used a Sony TV that has an IP driver but same results as you.
  14. Have you tried using / programming with the "Room Control" Driver? You may be able to achieve custom programming using this driver. Rather than monitoring the TV, you could program based on the room's variables. You may need a dealer to install it, but it may be able to achieve what you're after.
  15. This may not be exactly what you were looking for, but it might give you some ideas. We actually cut out the rock to make room for a one of a kind custom made copper back plate to match the rest of the front exterior. The copper back plate is wrapped around a base we supplied the metalsmith. The edges are copper welded and polished, you can't see any edges. The fit and finish on the copper plate is amazing. We then installed a flush mounted DS2 onto the back plate. I think it worked out awesome, but I am a little biased
  16. That's ok Zaphod, we won't hold that against you . Our patch panels and AV racks are the accumulation of 13+ years in the industry. We are continuously trying to improve each one we do. We even custom make panels and equipment to achieve our vision. If you'd like to check out more of our work, I welcome you to check out our Instagram page. EVS Instagram Page Account = EVScalgary
  17. Does Plex have Chapter Skip? Is there any platform/option that gives this ability on a remote by press "Skip Forward" to jump to the next chapter? Just curious. Each platform below knows there is are multiple chapters in the videos. When you press ok / bring up the interactive menu, it lists the chapters on each platform but you can't just easily jump to it like an old DVD disc. I tested Plex on the following platforms Plex on Sony TV. Universal mini app for Control4 and Plex App from android. Plex on Roku. Roku driver for Control4 and Installed Plex on the Roku itself. Plex on AppleTV. IP AppleTV driver for Control4 and Installed Plex on the AppleTV. Haven't tried the IR AppleTV driver yet. I was skeptical about the AppleTV because I do not know if the MRP has skip forward / chapter skip. I am using InstrisicDev's AppleTV driver. The only platform I haven't tested it on is a Nvidia Shield and IR AppleTV. Just wanted to get some feedback from everyone here.
  18. Couple of options. Upgrade to EA5 Add IOXv2 Keep adding z2io's until you hit your necessary amount of contacts and/or relays. You can have the different doors connected to different z2io's. Depends if you want to have sensors on each door. Same thing applies, keep adding contacts/relays until you're covered. You'll need a dealer to add the drivers and make the bindings.
  19. Same boat as Ryan. My garage springs died/snapped after 18 years of use. Hardwired opener/Sensors are still going strong .
  20. Eggzlot beat me to the post. We purchase a Liftmaster 893 Max remote and do this for every single install. It's by far one of the easiest ways to integrate Garage door opening/closing functions. The Lift Master 893 Max garage door opener can open almost any door from 1993 until now. It works on any garage door motor that has a green, orange/red, purple, yellow circle. it works on Liftmaster and Chamberlin doors. Here is a chart if you want to find your remote. Because the garage door remotes use such a low frequency they can travel a long distance. Even if you can't get the Liftmaster 893 Max inside your garage, if you get it close chances are it will still work. For best results, I recommend trying to hard wire it to a controller relay. Z2io's are a good option too as a last resort. You can buy the door openers off Amazon. If you've never solder before it just takes a few moments practice but isn't super hard. After programming the remote/button. To verify you have the correct contacts, you can short them out with a small paper clip to make you are about to solder the right contacts. I do not recommend getting the Garadget device. It's just as easy to wire up a Liftmaster 893 Max. Once you do this setup, you'll wonder why you ever tried to bother with cloud based drivers.
  21. Personally, not a huge fan of Airplay either, we install it on the systems so it's available for the clients. But what I love about Control4 is the wide range of streaming services that are available through them. They have something for everyone! The best part of using the built in streaming services is the easy to use menus/layouts, especially on the touch screens. For example, TuneIn has over 25,000+ free radio stations from around the world. It's so nice to browse through the touch screens and drill down through the menus and find your favorite radio stations. Or you can press and hold and make it a favorite on the room screen! It's awesome!
  22. You can have up to 16 Airplay drivers installed per system. Each driver can be custom named and visible in the GUI. You can give generic names for each of the airplay drivers or give names like "Dad's airplay" or "Kitchen Airplay". If you want, you can assign "Dad's airplay" just to one room or assign "Kitchen Airplay" (Your custom name) to the kitchen itself. If you named one of the 16 drivers "Airpaly 1". Any room can select it as a source and listen to it. Disclaimer, in order for the last two posts to work, you do need an audio matrix and an amplifier large enough to connect all the sources/zones. (The audio matrix is what allows any room to listen to any of the connected sources).
  23. Short answer is yes. Long answer it depends how you set it up. To my knowledge the "Chime Video Doorbell" doesn't have relays on it. But you could install relays in the mechanical room or elsewhere and wire it to the door strike and to an applicable Control4 processor. Then setup custom buttons either in the GUI. or use "Custom Button 1" or "Custom Button 2" on the chime. When these custom buttons are pressed, the system triggers the relays and opens the electric strike. This is dependent if you have the wiring etc etc etc. The DS2 has two relays built into the unit itself. You can control electric strikes through the DS2 but it does require some programming.
  24. The Shairbridge can be configured in two different ways 1) Global/Generic Airplay, meaning you airplay to "Airplay 1" (or whatever name you give it) and any room can select that source and play whatever music is playing to it. 2) You can 'hardcode' a Shairbridge driver to a specific room, so that when it detects music playing, it will automatically turn on that room's audio zone in C4. When the music stops playing, it can automatically turn it off. I typically just go for option 1 so the clients can choose whatever airplay (You can have up to 16 airplay's I believe) they want in whatever room they want.
  25. @Gary Leeds UK Glad you like it Gary! Make sure you upgrade, awhile back there was another "Man in the middle" attack that was discovered. Ruckus did patch it. At the time of writing this post the latest firmware is 210.10.10.5.246. While the Ruckus is more expensive than some of the other platforms out there. It will outperform and out last many of it's competitors. The features it has is pretty amazing too. Since we became a certified Ruckus Partner, we haven't looked back.
