The intellitouch was a bitch to wire, to many protocol adapters an expensive device to connect the controller to C4, but the IntelliCenter has wifi directed from the box - much easier if you ask me, especially if you never ran cables from the controller for network connectivity. I don't have a very large system, but I do like the Home App vs the ScreenLogic App. It seems more intuitive for simple tasks like turning on the pool lights and changing their colors.
-
If your system is old, it might be worth the IntelliCenter upgrade. you not only get a better connection with C4, but the Pentair Home app is very useful.
-
Does this also mean, if I ever upgrade from my EA-5 to a new Controller, I will have to move to a subscription model?

Replacing Araknis hardware with Ubiquiti
ekohn00 replied to pinkoos's topic in General Control4 Discussion
Not really the case these days. Cisco is not the defecto vendor anymore, there's lots of others taking their market space. They're loosing a lot of ground to Fortinet (mostly firewalls) and Aruba in the wifi space. -
Since I don't use remotes with HomeKit, I put everything in a fake room called Drivers. I've noticed disconnects every now and then, over the few years this has been available I've noticed disconnects around the time of apple upgrades. however, they tend to connect again relatively quickly. Are you using the latest iOS? We also have an appletv being the main HomeKit HUB. We also don't let any appleTV power off or sleep, even when the room is off.

Shield TV Pro vs Roku Ultra - which is better?
ekohn00 replied to jfh's topic in General Control4 Discussion
The ability to play TrueHD/Atmos or DTS-HD MA/DTS:X (lossless audio codecs that support object based surround) from a locally managed media server that has ripped blu-rays. Shield tends to also have better sound and picture quality - this was the most important decision, otherwise I would just stay with appletv. the shield also seems trouble free with c4. -
Shield TV Pro vs Roku Ultra - which is better?

It's the environment. It works much much better at flipping around between apps as well as visual appeal. If all your doing is going between a bunch of apps or playing music, this is just more responsive and appealing. For specs...I got the shield. Definitely for those atoms HD movies via Plex. -
Shield TV Pro vs Roku Ultra - which is better?
ekohn00 replied to jfh's topic in General Control4 Discussion
If you have Plex, then go shield. If you don't have Plex, but want to be able to select the exact app from your remote, go shield. Otherwise I like AppleTV. For movie night off of Plex we almost always go Shield. Otherwise appletv 95% of the time. -
switch options Unifi Araknis Pakedge etc

love my unifi! personally if you're going to do it yourself and manage it yourself because you have the knowledge, I felt the unifi was the best bang for the $$. -
Araknis WAP signal strength super weak.

Consider just 1 AP in the center of the house. More may not be better, corners are typically not beneficial. -
Unifi APs Dropping out of Controller but Staying "Blue"
ekohn00 replied to BY96's topic in Networking
Probably wouldn't be a problem with the unifis you meantion. And in your case, just give the garage its own SSID so those devices only connect to that AP. Just make sure in the management app the SSIDs are showing up per AP correctly. -

if it doesn't, check for interference and make sure you have the latest SW. -
Unifi APs Dropping out of Controller but Staying "Blue"
ekohn00 replied to BY96's topic in Networking
You only need the Unifi Network (macbook or cloudkey) to configure and update the APs for how your configured. However, once it is set up, you can get stats on the AP from the macbook or cloudkey. So it's worth it to keep it up at all times. If you reset your laptop you may have lots of problems with access to the APs. As others hinted, your best bet is to ditch the Araknas Router and go Unifi.... one management platform, and it will to DHCP, DNS, and keep everything organized so you don't have other future problems. -
Just an update...looking up on this list, I posted yesterday. Made sure the drivers are fully updated and synced. Just came back tonight and looked at the driver. yep, need to do the pin again because i got the token refresh error. good thing when i go to change the temp, i go to the ecobee app first, because C4 is a waste of my time for this.

Update the SSL certificate for a Pakedge RK-1 router?
ekohn00 replied to EricaK's topic in Control4 Hardware
there are no certs involved in the DHCP process, so this is not your problem -
Update the SSL certificate for a Pakedge RK-1 router?
ekohn00 replied to EricaK's topic in Control4 Hardware
Just to add to Mitch's post. it's not your RK-1 that is connecting to the thermostat. Certs would be between the two endpoints of a session unless you have a proxy, which the RK-1 probably doesn't do. -

My point was simply, it doesn't work that way. even if not used, an equalizer will add noise. they are not pass-through devices. -

ekohn00 replied to Lua's topic in c4Forums.com Site Discussions
they are analog devices that can change volume, bass, and treble. that means they are far from a pass-through. I don't have the c4 matrix, but if it has similar characteristics to the 8-zone multi-channel amp, I had a noticeable difference. You can also look at the SNR & THD numbers and see if they are much lower than your existing audio equipment. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying they suck and should not be used.....we use them for our whole home audio. -

Your P6 is known to be a pretty good DAC. If you use C4 as the streaming source, you should consider DIGITAL out from C4 to P6 for better sound quality. -

Don't know if you meant me.... but take your pick it's either Sirius, Pandora, Tidal, Roon, and apple via airplay. -
