Just had an inexpensive 8x8 video matrix installed in my project

Recommended Posts

I just had my Just Add Power 1G system upgraded with a No Hassle AV - 8x8 HDMI 2.0 HDR 4K matrix.  I bought it on Amazon.  So far, the new matrix has been awesome.  It has a full 18Gbps signal (no compression), no HDCP handshake lag, no EDID problems and a vast improvement in picture quality.  It’s HDMI, but they have a kit to convert it to HDbaseT over a single Ethernet cable.

I moved my two TIVO Bolts to the new matrix and connected two TIVO minis to the JAP system.  It's a duplication of effort since all my TV's are "smart", but I also connected 4K Roku Ultras to the new matrix for other Internet streaming and connectivity to my Plex server (Chowmain driver).  It would be great if the 4K FireTV IP connectivity issue gets resolved one day since I have Amazon Alexa’s in the house (VideoStorm has a solution with IRUSB).

The JAP system is still being used for a 24” Vizio Smartcast TV in the kitchen.  I eventually will add the same TV in the laundry area and 2 bathrooms.

The price was as follows:

  • 8x8 Matrix - $925.00
  • HDbaseT Extender Kit (18Gbps transmitter and receiver) - $249.99 / kit
  • 18Gbps HDMI cables - prices vary
  • Free RS232 driver (they also have the codes to write your own IP driver)

I saw somewhere that the monoprice blackbird matrices are discovered as "Key Digital". It would be cool to reuse IP drivers if they are available.

edit:

Edit2: I think there arent any IP drivers available.

subscribing. This looked great but if you run 8 hdbaset solutions, you got 8 baluns in your rack, and thats  $2,000 in baluns. (eek) I guess still that puts you at $3,000 for FULL 4k@60hz 4:4:4 but all that extra wiring/baluns/power need in my rack gives me anxiety.

How many are you running via HDbaseT baluns.

They told me that they are 30-45 days away from releasing a 8x8 18gbps with HDBaseT earlier this week. Curious to see the price point being that you could "piece it together" with what you posted for $2925

If your rack is deep enough, you have enought space, and you have proper vertical and horizontal lacing bars that shouldn't be a problem

Just be strategic, separate them accordingly,  and think about serviceability. You can have tons of wires and as long as it is organized you won't have issues

They have a 6x6 HDbaseT version that costs about $2800 and I don’t believe the receivers are included.  You definitely should call their tech support because they are extremely responsive and helpful.  They will also give pricing information over the phone.

Oh and check out their reviews on Amazon.

I truly believe organizing racks is an art, one of which I am not good at!! All these damn power blocks, weird shaped power adapters are enough to have me up in arms!

Thank you for the term, horizonal lacing bars!!! I need some of those but didnt know what they were called.

What do you call that big long verticle power bar, ive been using horizontal ones, but a vertical one would probably let me tiddy things up a bit

long enough vertical power strips in the rack with 15% more outlets than you need is key because those wall warts end up taking up extra space go a long way in helping with that.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could do some standardization for DC power and just have one DC power supply to drive everything rather than numerous wall warts that are 5V, 9V, 12V, etc.

Dual 32x32 with 8 outputs of each to feed the other for overflowing content back and forth for projectors, monitors and video conferencing lol. Plus fiber runs from the main house distro magenta system to link other rooms together which is pure garbage
