I truly believe organizing racks is an art, one of which I am not good at!! All these damn power blocks, weird shaped power adapters are enough to have me up in arms!

Thank you for the term, horizonal lacing bars!!! I need some of those but didnt know what they were called.

What do you call that big long verticle power bar, ive been using horizontal ones, but a vertical one would probably let me tiddy things up a bit

It's a PDU, Power Distribution Unit.....

Decending order as follows

Those are the best and the deeper the better which they offer deeper versions of the above, then you get to budget racks which are nice but you lose some options since integrated rear rails IMO are a pain in the ass and I hate them but they are better than nothing

Not all racks are created equal, trust me. I can make a MRK look so much tidier and nicer than a basic 4 post slimline5 style just because of their construction. And I would gladly eat my hat if someone challenged me to build a rack with the same gear in the same amount of time where they used a standard 4 post rack and I used one of the top 3 and theirs turned out to look better from a wire management standpoint

Wow - configuring a rack on Middle Atlantic's site is totally overwhelming.

Back to the OP.

Couldn’t you skip the extenders and just run HDMI cables to each location? I’ve seen HDMI cables that are rated for 300 ft plus.

You could, but less modular. Can't embed ir/serial. Can reterminate cat6, when HDMI spec changes you swap the endpoints. Fiber HDMI is expensive

Good review, though i dont see wink/vera/smartthings integrating with them at this point since no universal remote is directly connected in their software. A harmony may integrate with some smartthings devices but nothing on the automation hub side is of much value since that would rely on the tv and any other device being powered on and on th right inputs. Also doubt Alexa and Google home will be very interested in this either.

If you could get a harmony remote to talk to the matrix that could be cool, but the big issue is the extremely limited number of ports on their hub to make it so there isn't IR crosstalk in a rack. Plus the device limitations and inability for a remote to switch rooms is a pain

Thanks for the compliment on my review!  I agree with you about the hub integration.  Just mentioning it so that maybe the smart people out there might start thinking about  the possibility of developing a solution.  The ultimate goal is to get supply and demand at a point that drives reliability and installs up and price down.  Wishful thinking 🙂

It’s been up since March 1st and I’ve only rebooted once.  The reason was to get DHCP to pull the specific IP address I reserved on my DHPC server for the matrix.  In the next day or so I will be installing a Tripp-Lite surge protection and line conditioning device for additional protection for the entire rack.  Overall it’s been stable but check the link to my Amazon review because that has more detail.

I looked at your review on Amazon and there is a question from another poster. Curious to know if you got a driver working and what did you use.

Yes, that is the correct driver.  From what I understand, it was very easy to set up.  I did the physical install with a serial cable to my Control4 IO Extender.

Is this driver working seamlessly with this switch and is their “zone lockout” for lower than 4K sources ? Thank you. W
