Ram S
Hello, I have a large music collection properly curated with metadata on a NAS Drive (WD 4TB) . I have had the dealer configure my C4 System (Smart Home OS 2.10.5) to scan the NAS drive on daily basis to pick up new media and update the index. I have noticed that almost once or twice a year, the scan stops working. The dealer has to login to my system (albeit can be done remote) and has to reconfigure something to restart the scan. My dealer doesn't seem to know the root cause and is not always available to fix the issue. It's just an annoyance that keeps cropping up once in a while. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? If so, your kind advise to resolve this is much appreciated. Thanks, Ram
-defunct-
If you don't already have a battery backup for the NAS, Control4 controller, and network. I would advise getting one as a first step. Any time the connection drops between the NAS and the Control4 controller while the Conttol4 controller is still on can get the scan locked (from what I've seen). Rebooting the Control4 system should resolve the issue.
LollerAgent
Have you considered switching to DLNA?
Ram S
@Dunamivoraand @LollerAgent thank you very much for your responses. I'll try adding a battery back-up. I'll also try rebooting the system (which I think just unplugging and plugging it back should do). When you mean switching to DLNA, can you please elaborate? Do you mean by-passing control 4 and use my Receiver to connect to the NAS directly? Thanks, Ram

You will need the DLNA daemon running on your NAS as well. You can then use the DLNA driver to access all of your music. You don't need to manually re-scan or anything when using DLNA.. everything is updated automatically.
msgreenf
Dlna all the waySent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
jfh
Seems like the scan bugginess that has existed for sometime hasn’t been fixed. DLNA May be an option, but the media scan should work properly.
Matt Lowe
also voting for the new dlna driver. Much more modern interface and updated regularly msgreenf
Ram S
Hi All, Thanks much for all the inputs and guidance. The dealer has fixed the issue for now. for some reason the programming that he had done was corrupted. He simple removed and re-added the same program instructions and it started working. I have asked the dealer to install the DLNA driver but I was informed that only select NAS drives are supported. I have a WD My Home Cloud NAS and I'm assuming the WD Live driver should work. It appears from the WD web-site that they use the same DLNA drivers. I have asked him to install the WD Live driver. Keeping my fingers crossed. Here is the list of supported NAS: The following DLNA music servers have been tested and are fully supported by the driver: Twonky Asset MiniDLNA/Ready Media WD Live Buffalo DLNA (Driver version 1.0.1 or higher) The following DLNA servers are supported but do not provide search capability (note the search icon will still be shown on the UI): Plex Synology Media Server (using Simple Style menu) Thanks,
msgreenf
They should try it anyway. It will likely work Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
jingcha
Is there a way I can tell from my Composer home edition that a DLNA driver is installed on my system by the dealer?

Am I missing something?
LollerAgent
You can probably run another DLNA server on your Synology if you want.

I think they have native packages for Synology, so installation should be simple. MiniDLNA or any of the others should be fine as well. Just pick one that is simple to install on Synology. -defunct-
FYI on Twonky. It has to be the PC version since it has to be the full twonky suite. I ran into an issue with that one. I personally use the Synology built in DLNA server and link that with the DLNA Music driver.

-defunct-
True, the built in DLNA on synology does limit search.
Destroyer of Worlds
Plex also has DLNA if you're using that for your NAS.
prabeau
I am showing duplicate files on my DLNA and My Music. There are no duplicates of songs in the music folder on my NAS. Any ideas ? Thanks Found the issue. When installing Catalina it seems the iTunes directory buried itself into the sam directory creating doubles
