RyanE reacted to BXTR in Savant vs C4
That’s wildly inaccurate and is more related to the quality of the dealer rather than the platform
We just flew 4 hours to deploy a 5th system for a client of ours at his newest property. People don’t do this if the system is unreliable
I’ll admit that there’s a ton of crappy dealers out there but reliability 99.9% of the time comes down to system/network design and also standing ground when the client asks if it can be done cheaper

This forum was originally started by Control4 dealers, before Control4 started their forums.
Dealers quickly moved mostly over to Control4's forums, and this one became more homeowner populated.

you don't have phantom programming nor did your timers do anything. You have the light configured for auto-off. I just disabled it

under CAD14. There'll be shipping, but especially if you're doing a lot it'll save you.

Try a Lutron shunt; Lutron LUT-MLC or going back a while now a V1 ELV dimmer; C4-TDIM-1

In terms of use case for *controlling* and not just monitoring, I have several garage doors in two different locations on my property and have a DS2 near each set of garages. I use programming to use special codes on the DS2 to open/close each door. Cleaner and easier than having several manufacturer's wireless keypads (with batteries that need replacing). I set up the DS2 codes in the format of base code + door number "suffix" to make it easier to remember. I also find it convenient to open/close doors using C4 interface when you're far away from garage.
In terms of MyQ integration, I have done this using a fairly Rube Goldberg-esque approach: The open source program "Homebridge" has a free plugin to bring MyQ into Apple's Homekit/Siri ecosystem. The paid DTI Siri driver connects Apple ecosystem with C4. In this way, I can use C4 to control MyQ devices. You would not do this *just* for MyQ control, but you get that ability "for free" (at the margin) if you've already used the DTI driver to add Siri voice control to C4.
As a further aside, one of the cool things about the new Halo "voice button" is that you can use it to invoke the DTI/Siri voice commands (since Apple TV's native Siri functionality already does that). So you could press the Halo voice button and say "Open Large Garage Door" and it will happen. Or, outside garage control context, you could tell Halo "turn on the lights" and it would turn on the lights in the room that you have placed the Apple TV that Halo is talking to (but not your other lights).

i open my garage door from control4 all the time. either to let someone in or if i forgot to close it at night, etc. one of the things i use most with c4. might just be how my house is and how i let people in.

Not a thing, MyQ is solder or the engaget adapter piece.

RyanE reacted to South Africa C4 user in Are you getting a noticeable Speed increase from Core processors?
As this was a secondary controller rather than my Director (which is a CA10), I don’t have much in the way of useful comments.
For me, the extra digital music stream was a big plus as is the improved (now fixed) OSD (the 4K really looks magic when using a good projector on a large screen).
I actually upgraded to the Core5 so that I could use the EA5 at my other property as a replacement for one of my two HC800s.

For clarity, the OSD bug on the link between certain AVRs and the Core before OS3.3.3 was not merely a 4K issue. I could not get the OSD to stick (for more than a few hours) on any resolution.
Ecstatic to hear that OS3.3.3 fixes this! I must say that when I briefly looked at the 4K OSD, it was super clear and a major step up on the 1080 OSD. Screensaver photos were also crisp!

Also, not everyone was affected. I tested on a optima 4k projector without issues as an example
It's unlikely that any installer here can claim they've never had an issue with 4k over HDMI before, it's actually fairly common (and it's sometimes not the product, but the product you're connecting to, such as receivers).
When I was an installer, we regularly had to set AppleTVs to 1080p as an example in some combinations.
Os3.3.3 fixes it though. And I'd assume most products implement workarounds too.
Either way, disregarding all that, the core series is much faster, and I recommend them, particularly since os 3.3.3

While I 90% agree with you, the problem with the OSD not staying active with certain AVRs has been really irritating. I assume this was a handshake issue and I am assuming that this was fixed in OS3.3.3. Looking forward to going to my holiday house this weekend and seeing if it is finally truly fixed. I upgraded an EA5 to a Core 5 six months ago and I lost my OSD. Really hoping it is back!

Nor should you, as it's bunk, even moreso with the latest OS release.

I would say - if you are NOT noticing anything slow now, you're not going to notice an upgrade to a Core on an existing setup from a daily use perspective.
If you're having issues now, even if zigbee related, you may well see a difference. The reality is that there is no simple answer to the question 'will i notice a difference' without a lot more information to begin with between controller, at least from a 'normal' daily use experience.
Essentially you're asking if your emails will go through faster if you get this year's laptop processor vs the previous one - and note that my emails are going though right away now.
IS the CORE line more powerful? Yep.
Does it do certain aspects particularly better? Absolutely.
Can it improve a sluggish system now? For sure. Is that a guarantee? Well no as I can't say if your issues are even related to processor speeds.
🤷♂️
If you're asking if it makes sense to pro-actively replace an EAx with a COREx (if running director) when there is no issues now, and you're not looking for any of the new features (ie expanded zwave support) - well then the answer is no.
-
RyanE reacted to msgreenf in Are you getting a noticeable Speed increase from Core processors?
There are reasons beyond speed to upgrade to core. The new Zigbee and Zwave chips are huge
-
RyanE reacted to Cyknight in Are you getting a noticeable Speed increase from Core processors?
To be clear: you're not going to see any increases by replacing ea series with Core series when they're running under a CA10. Any major increases would be only truly noticeable when the MAIN controller gets replaced. (Apart from the fact that the CA10 is far more capable to begin with)

Hey guys,
Made a video demonstrating the Color Light Grouping in OS3.3 (Phillips Hue, Yeelight, Shelly RGBW2, TPLink Kasa And Wiz ColorWheel based lights) for those who are interested how well it works.
I haven't demonstrated features like the Custom Extras Capabilities (there are many capabilities not demonstrated).
