I put together a little album as to how you would go about the whole process: https://imgur.com/a/lwfxc

Gary Leeds UK got a reaction from thedriverslab in Phillip Hue Motion Sensor
We have two Phillip Hue Sensors and came across this driver
https://www.unilogiq.com/en/control4-drivers
You need to add 2.10+ Temp Display Driver and the Generic C4 Sensor along with above gateway and you will have
Full working C4 Sensor.
Well done Bogby

BTW, the Security Light driver literally is getting better every day...
A new version (Version 31) was released to the online database last week.
Here are the changes listed in the documentation:
* Fixed bug where timer was not being cleared when security function was disabled.
* Changed to start timer on *motion no longer sensed*, turn on lights on both sensed and no longer sensed. For short timeouts (i.e. turn this hallway light on for 30 seconds), it doesn't work due to motion continuously being sensed.
* Event names and descriptions were updated to be more consistent with when events will fire (Motion Sensed -> Lights Triggered, Motion Stopped -> Lights Restored).
* Added 'ENABLED' variable, which can be used to determine whether the driver will turn on / off lights on motion changes.
* Added 'Set Light Level' command, which allows programming to change the light level the motion will set lights to (useful for day/night programming).
Cheers,
RyanE

It certainly works well and the Amazon Polly TTS engine is great!
@Gary Leeds UK: a couple of hints on programming:
1. Create a separate announcement (polly1, polly2 etc.) for every different set of rooms you want audio to play in. E.g. I am looking at PollyWholeHouse, PollyOutside, PollyBedrooms, PollyUpstairs, PollyDownstairs and PollyMainBedroom
2. I find it useful to put the Polly execution in a macro and use a string variable for what Polly says. E.g. a simple set of commands for me would be:
-> PollyString = ‘Good night sir” (after all, no one else calls me sir)
-> execute PollyMainBedroom macro
where PollyString is a string variable I created and my PollyMainBedroom macro includes the following two commands:
-> PollyAnnouncement (PollyString,,,,,) using the PollyMainBedroom driver
-> Execute PollyMainBedroom announcement
Excuse the syntax which is all wrong as I am not in front of my PC but you get the idea.
What I have described above is way more complex than necessary but makes it very versatile for future programming.
Injecting variables into the string is easy and you can do something funky things as Eddy has pointed out.
I’ve even tried emailing my personal Gmail account with a message titled “C4 Polly” and have it speak the body of the email... Using Alan’s IFTTT driver to get the email into a string via Pushover. This freaked my wife out... probably because I sat at the office and emailed “I’m watching you” which then was played through our bedroom speakers . That almost spelled the end of my relationship with C4!

Gary Leeds UK reacted to SurfNTech in LG TV IP Driver - Released
I love this driver, wasn't sure about paying for it when my dealer suggested it but it has been great. We use the pop-up messages all the time.
Started with 4 TVs and we liked the features of this driver so much the wife made me upgrade the other 4 TVs in the house to LG.
You know things are worth it when the wife tells you to replace all the TVs in the house to be the same brand.
Loving the LG integration!!!

Just putting in a good word for Ari - he integrated my multiple Sonos speakers into my project, cleaned up some of my project and spent quite a bit of time telling me how I can improve my system, sent me links to things he was talking about, got me started on Hue integration and was overall a pleasure to work with.
I would recommend Ari without hesitation.

Gary Leeds UK reacted to alanchow in DLNA Music – An alternative digital music experience
Hi guys,
Control4 just released a new driver they developed today. Pretty cool. Works great.
DLNA Music – An alternative digital music experience
Control4 is pleased to announce the availability of the DLNA Music driver. This is an alternative to the standard My Music digital music driver for use where the customer’s local music collection is stored on a NAS drive. Most NAS drives ship with a DLNA music server which is compatible with this driver.
The advantages of the DLNA Music driver in these situations are:
No Music Scanning Required – The driver uses the information already scanned by the DLNA server.
New Music Appears Quickly – The DLNA server can constantly monitor for new music.
Searching - Music collections can be searched by Artist, Album, Genre etc.
‘His and Hers’ music collections – it is possible to set up different libraries for different members of the family. Justin Beiber shall never intermingle with your Prog Rock collection again.
Tailor the navigation – many DLNA servers allow you to tailor how the information is presented to the user. Some are particularly good for Classical or Jazz collections.
It is important to remember that this driver does not scan the music collection or lookup metadata. If customers that have already copied their CDs or purchased music from online stores this is not necessary. It also means that the driver does not edit or change the customer’s metadata. If a customer uses iTunes or other programs that lookup metadata as they copy CDs this driver can be used successfully.
Supported NAS drives and Servers
The driver has been tested using the following popular NAS drive and DLNA server solutions.
QNAP
Use either Twonky which is shipped with the NAS, or install Asset (Free or Paid versions). The QNAP native DLNA server is not supported.
Netgear Ready NAS
Use the built in ReadyDLNA server. You can also purchase Twonky for some models.
WD Live
Use the built in Twonky DLNA server.
Synology
The built in DLNA server will work but does not support searching.
For other NAS drive manufacturers look to see if they include or support either Asset or Twonky.
iTunes
The driver is ideal for customers that have their local music collection on iTunes. By moving the iTunes library to a NAS drive it is possible for the customer to enjoy their iTunes music collection via their Control4 system without needing to keep a computer permanently running.
Classical and Jazz Collections
If you have customers with classical and jazz music collections then they often want to be able to search or browse their collection by Composer, Orchestra, Conductor or Soloist. The Asset DLNA music server available for the QNAP NAS offers these abilities. It relies on the customer’s music collection being accurately tagged. dbpoweramp also provide CD Ripper which is particularly good at accurately copying and indexing classical music collections.
Available Now
The driver is available now in Composer via the online database. You can find it under Media Service, Manufacturer Control4.

Gary Leeds UK got a reaction from qVAMPIREp in Apple announces Homekit - Threat or Opportunity?
How many will still exist ??
Only if end users lose faith in Control 4, will it be a problem.
The dealer needs end users, end users will have options on what HA system to use.
They will pay a "Apple dealer" or Computer guy to set the system up after buying all the kit himself.
Dealers need to remember that end users pay for the equipment and Apple sounds a lot better than C4, Creston, AMX ETC.
-
Gary Leeds UK reacted to chesterwilson in Apple announces Homekit - Threat or Opportunity?
Neither.
Apple going for the low end of HA, lower cost less complicated integration (affordable to the masses).
C4 at the top end, higher cost (albeit less than it's competitors, but very niche).
If I were a CTRL shareholder I'd be pretty pissed because the major growth is going to be driven by the less complicated DIY integration. Sure there will be some more business and exposure in the higher end market but no where near what the current stock price has priced in.
As I've said in the past if you are a shareholder in CTRL you are banking on a takeover. Nothing to this day leads me to believe that management is competent enough to transform or significantly grow it's business model.
