No one is going to 'fix' this, either way, or convince those with the opposite opinion on the matter.

Im with Niall on this one sorry. Certainly not illegal. I remember a while ago this came up in a popular discord forum and all was explained. 
ATA, do you not think Snap AV or Control4 would actually do something to enforce this if it was? 1000's of people are 'jailbreaking' and have been for years quite happily. They allow 'jailbreakers' to pay for services like 4Sight also. Yes, people dont get the skills of a dealer to program the systems but over time people can get just as good, if not better than some dealers.

I'm not so sure this is for individual users to do. I signed up to this for a company I worked at to integrate our network kit and it was a process for a company to sign up to.
Contracts had to be signed etc.

Ignore all those telling you it's hard to do. It's relatively easy even without people to help you. I imagine the people who find it hard to do don't have much background in programming (not talking about using composer to do "programming").

Jayaredoubleu you make a very good argument.
There are many parallels between home automation and the computer industry in the early days. If you wanted to do custom things on computers in the past you had to spend a lot on a compiler. Now they are free or included.
The same with how many computer shops there were 25 years ago, now everyone is more skilled, things are easier to do, and there are hardly any.
Will the home automation market go the same way? I wouldn't bet against it.

I can’t imagine this business model lasts much longer.  I guess C4 management has realized as much and sold out to Snap AV, passing on the hot potato.

So a dealers livelihood relies on restriction of information to the end user?  I’m glad your not my dealer.  Imagine any other tech company claiming an uneducated customer keeps the money flowing in.  That’s the type of company I’m going to avoid.

I think we should all just walk away from this thread...

Ok... Generally I've been fairly quiet for the last year and mostly just reading the threads watching for new C4 stuff or other interesting 3rd party items, and or ideas. 
But I had to pop in and post before slinking back into the shadows...  Are you always this nasty to people and are you yourself a dealer, hopefully not mine if you are... I ask because many of your posts trend towards not so nice. The OP said he just upgraded, didn't say he did it and didn't say he didn't do it.  I think most of us assumed he upgraded via his dealer who didn't inform him of possible issues, conflicts, or loss of functionality.  Believe it or not, not every dealer is amazing and covers these things.  Sometimes a client calls and says they want to upgrade and so the dealer upgrades them, no questions asked. 
Yes you can read this thread and come to possible conclusions but why? What purpose does it serve outside of trolling someone. I'm sure I'll get accused of doing the same thing but if you look at my past posts you'll see that my MO is generally the same. There is no reason to be mean, nasty, ignorant, or otherwise to people.  
With that said, back to the shadows and maybe someday I'll just learn to keep my mouth shut.

You're apparently not a dealer, because you don't have access to the proper materials, taking away from the livelihood of half the people on this board.

Are you seriously accusing me of stealing the livelihood of dealers? I'd ask how I'd done that, but to be honest I don't really want to get involved.

All he/she has to say at that point, (since I was the one who first offered help), is 'thanks, I'll point that out to my dealer.'

If you want to look back, the OP 'thanked' me for the value I added, when I was the first one to point him to where the answer to the question was found. It seemed pretty apparent they're working with cracked Composer or something, but they had the temerity to throw shade at me for suggesting they use dealer resources to solve a dealer issue.

But, again, thanks for your opinion of your partial perception of the events unfolding, that's productive. I at least responded, several times, on topic.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking, I'd stopped replying because I could see where this was going.
To add the context (which proves your point exactly) I did have it upgraded by a dealer, but wanted to know how it could be rolled back so I knew what was involved. So I could see if I could do it myself or work out how much it would cost in dealer time.
