  1. Not a motion, it reports back open/close status to c4
  2. I use push bullet for notifications from c4 to my phone
  3. Kodi is amazing BTW. I just set up the karaoke plugin for a friend. I couldnt get mikey's karaoke to work properly but FTG works well
  4. Cable modem>edge router>48 port switch (not necessarily a particular brand). then the access points connect to the switch either via a PoE injector in line or use a switch that has PoE built in
  5. Most are rf controllers not IR. I use vera and zwave fan controller
  6. I think Amazon and Google can put a dent in some things especially on the low and entry level, but distributed audio that isn't their native content and video? Nowhere close. And I doubt they will even try for it for a while if they ever do
  7. An a EA1 is their entry level for AV and automation but is limited to 1 room for control so an EA3 is more ideal. You will have to be a dealer to have access to composer pro for programming though which doesn't give you time beforehand unless you buy a system, get it initially set up and you buy composer HE to get some access to the software side of things, I have installed quite a few harmony elites and control4 definitely wipes the floor with them when you have more than 2 rooms and if devices are shared with splitters or a matrix then it is way out of their wheelhouse due to limited IR ports as well as difficulty sharing 1 hub for 2 rooms becomes troublesome because certain parts of the activity macros that are generated cannot be deleted like turning off both zone1 and 2 of an avr without a lot of tweaking and tricking the remote to fire fake commands
  8. When you use a configurable keypad for control and the pucks throughout to manage each light itself
  9. That is the first question in response to the thread opening.
  10. You can lock the inputs and the upside is higher wattage per channel but it looks like the inventory was incorrect and he has a "dummy" amp so multiple sonos connects could work if the amp is set to auto on via signal
  11. Controllable bulbs to me is more suited for lamps if you use them at all. In wall dimmers are much better IMO as well
  12. You would be leaving the amp on all the time at 80-100% volume. You would be better leaving the amp and hc800, locking the inputs and doing 1 last programming run to set the amp to use audio sensing. Turning on the zone and stopping a timer when signal is present, then when it stops start the timer. And when the timer expires turn the zone off. This will make it so you can just go get 8 sonos connects and plug them into the amp, never mess with the c4 UI and as long as no hardware fails never need additional programming. If cost is an issue you could group some zones strategically so you would only need 3 or 4 sonos connects which will give you some volume control through the sonos app but not each of your existing zones
  13. I have dealt with URC, RTI, crestron and control4 systems. And the ones that the customer always hated were the ones implemented incorrectly. You already have a powerful infrastructure that can be leveraged. But I understand having a bad taste in your mouth does quite a bit of damage. You can go full sonos but you will probably spend 3-4k in just hardware making sure you get 8 independent zones that have the ability to group when asked. So if you are happy with spending that, you are the one living and using it everyday.
  14. Agreed, probably just need some optimization based on how you truly want to use the system. If it is cumbersome to use then it wasnt set up properly. And those controllers can run current OS version so you can utilize composer HE and alexa that way or an epic driver and have a good experience. Especially with that matrix, you have plenty of inputs to go around
  15. You can feed the echo into the matrix and amp as well as hook up sonos as a source into control4 and use those if you prefer them over native c4 services. Only way to get individual zone vollume would be to get 8 sonos connects and an 8 zone amp or 8 sonos connect amps which will set you back a pretty penny. Sounds like you need someone to do a tuneup. Do you have Composer HE? That will give you some programming control. What you are talking about is comparable to selling a 2012 loaded honda accord that needs new fluids and tires to go buy a brand base model ford fiesta
  16. 1 sonos player feeding into the global input of an 8 zone amp or an amp with multiple channels and a few speaker selectors can work but you won't have individual volume control across the speakers via the app so quite a step backwards. If you are having issues you could probably get a remote dealer to get you taken care of. Bigger question is why do you want to remove your system? What is the main controller you have?
  17. My 1st floor is all GE zwave dimmers and a vera controller. They work fine, just can't play with ramp rates and lose double and triple tap programming but they will interface with c4 just fine
  18. AVRs specs and HDMI change way too often for this IMO. URC made one and it was crap. Those sonys were meh. Crestron has their own procise processors that are just avrs (no built in processors) and they are nice but way too overpriced and cant keep up with the constantly changing landscape.
  19. First you have to tell the driver what phrase you want to synthesize. Then go to your announcements and play the one named Polly
  20. You could just have multiple instances of the driver
  21. Only thing that is worse is when you go to someone's house and they have 4 remotes on the coffee table doing the circus juggle. I just walk away, cause I can't watch the nonsense. Especially when they have an AVR too and have to leave the cabinet open lol
  22. The botvac connected and Samsung have IFTTT integration so you could trigger it with C4
  23. Depends on the simultaneous number of feeds with a 250 or 800 but likely it is 96/24. If there are legacy controllers or speaker points in the project not allowing advanced audio the delay for encoding is longer but I don't believe quality is really lowered. Need to go EA and get rid of hc200/300/500 and streaming speaker points to get 192kHz/24-bit throughout
