dentalben
I'm currently using a Dune media player and I'm looking to change it because it keeps going into power save mode which makes it a big hassle anytime I want to use it. There's no setting to keep it from doing that so I'm stuck. Regardless of whether I use a Plex or Kodi server, what physical media player do people like using (for movies anyway)? Does anyone have a preference on Plex vs. Kodi? Thanks
StroTek LLC
I have a intel NUC behind my TV that runs plex home theater, the control4 driver for it is excellent, and the PC is plenty powerful to direct stream and play any of my content
lippavisual
dentalben, You have been told several times how to change the power setting on the Dune to turn on after power failure. I have several of these at home and all of them return to on after power failure. It's as simple as reading the manual.
dentalben
Hey thanks lippavisual for a completely useless post! Interesting that I didn't specify which Dune media player I have yet you assume they all have the same options. I also didn't mention I was having a problem after a power failure. If you actually READ my post, you'll see the that media player is going into sleep mode (after not being used for a period of time). Lastly, just in case I was wrong I checked all of my posts and threads and this is the first time I've asked about this issue. I'm willing to accept that you've got me confused with someone else, or maybe you're just having a bad day.

jackstone
I've used: - WMC, was solid, but needs PC reboot over time, and I don't trust PC player as a resellable solution- Mede8er, nice functionality but HUGE problem with power management, never come back ON when a power failure occur, sold one time, got too much support call for this single issue.- Kodi: Work great, most complete solution, best C4 driver, but no hardware is solid enough to run 24/7. Need to reboot, experienced random freeze and crashes. I tried many hardware combinations (mostly PC Based) for Kodi but I may be unlucky to always find issue with each Kodi system I've tried. Not tried Mac though... And too much Android boxes available to test them all...- Dune: Experienced lot of Black Screen issue for no reason, some disconnect issue too, freeze, need to reboot, supposed to be the best media player box but from what I've experienced it does not worth the price paid.- Plex Server: Solid. Possibility the best media server solution, Alan's latest driver is perfect. Not tried the Plex Home Theater as the player side mainly because of the lack of ISO file support. It's may be me, or I may be very unlucky, but I have not yet found the best set-up and forget Movie Server/Player solution to resell with confidence. I am going away from the Movie Server option I was offering to my customers because it cause way too much support calls. It's perfect for my own home, but not reliable enough to resell. Cyknight
my only complaint about plex is the lack of Iso support And considering ALL my stuff is ISO from original disc that makes it useless to me. What I like more than anything is that Alan/Chowmein's progression in these drivers is an indication of improvements yet to come in the overal scope for media control using Control4. However plex is the best media management software I've encountered. If kodi included transcoding and a central server architecture it would probably be my favorite. StroTek LLC
I found this via google: http://www.makemkvbatch.com/ but i dont know how it works etc... I know in windows at least, that you can pretty easily create a script to batch convert files
Mntneer
any batch process recommendations doing this from a Mac over the network on a NAS Handbrake can allow you to queue up encodes, create a custom preset template and you're good to go. I've used it in the past to batch convert my DVD's to MKV's.
Cyknight
I remuxed all my stuff from iso to MKV using makemkv .. it was a tedious process.. but now i love it 1- I'll not be going to that process with the amount of files I have (thousands) - and wouldn't trust batch units with that either.2- More importantly I do not WANT any transcoding of the files - there's a reason why I do iso files to begin with. I still have the full original quality.. its just in a better format (for me)True, remux isn't the same as a recoding as such - however you're still messing with the original file setup. Still not something I want to do - the 'one' change from a disc format to a disc image is all I'm willing to do.Is that being picky (for lack of more censored wording) - sure. Doesn't change that I'll gladly use options other than Plex. Note that part of that reason is that I WANT those original menus and extras available on at least some of the movies (that being the reason plex professes is why they don't support ISO). Adds and other annoyances are removed ahead of time.
jackstone
I've added a script to allow ISO to work with Plex Media Server, ISO are now recognized and indexed properly. All my movies (including ISO) are injected in C4 using Alan's driver and can be played over Dune, Mede8er, Kodi or other. But you can't still stream the ISO movie using the Plex app on iPad or Plex Home Theater, not a big deal for me.

jackstone
Sure, here is the link and the install instruction: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201674343-Scanning-Disk-Image-Format-Media It's an old topic in the Plex support forum, but still work with the all versions of Plex Media Server, even the latest.
