How do I remove my Control4 and change the light switches to smart switches

My Control4 was installed years ago by my ex and it’s slowly stopped functioning correctly.
certain rooms won’t turn on though the switch indicates it’s on. TV won’t respond, won’t turn on or off when I turn room on. Schedule isn’t synced anymore. Actual switch in wall not working for kitchen-broken.
Tried rebooting everything. But with no tech to help and no money for costly upgrades/repairs I just want it out.
My ex says a new control is $1700+ So I want it all removed.
Can I just put smart switches in instead or rocker switches?

It will depend a little bit on how it was done. If you have any multi-button units, or any lights that you are currently (supposed to be able to) turn on/off from multiple switches, the wiring was changed from 'standard' electrical wiring.

Nothing that likely can't be reversed, but you're talking electrician work.

If they're all simple single location switches/dimmer, then they can be replaced with a regular switch (smart of not).

Again though, you're talking high voltage here - be sure to get an electrician or someone who at LEAST knows what he/she is doing.

It depends on the lighting that you have. Hopefully he just replaced the original light switches with wireless lighting from control4

You should just be able to replace the switches with regular Home Depot dimmers or switches. If you have a wired lighting system , then that’s more work.
Do you have all keypads or dimmers? Upload some pictures of your switches

Depends on the lighting system.  If you have centralized lighting ( big steel looking panel in a closet or garage) becomes tougher.  I would have one of the fine remote dealers spend an hour or two looking through your system and seeing what’s really going on.  Maybe it’s just some simple things that need to be adjusted.

a small investment but just ripping it all out will cost quite a bit.

But replacement to Smart ones will cost you money as well, you might need to consider getting a quote for fixing C4 rather than replacing it as it might be less expensive for you!

You don’t say how many switches, but it’s unlikely you will be able to change out all your switches for anything close to $1,700. But how old is your system? One of the remote dealers on this forum should be able to help you for a lot less.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
